Henderson Happy to Be a Hammer
Friday, 9th Nov 2012 06:01

His short-term future may be uncertain but goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has underlined his ambition to become West Ham’s number one.

On loan at Portman Road until January, the 24-year-old Dubliner makes no secret of his desire to oust veteran Finland star Jussi Jaaskelainen at Upton Park.

He said: “I like to think I can become first choice. I’ve a four-year contract and I’m only in my first year so there’s a long way to go. I might be wrong, but I don’t think they want me out just yet.

“I’ve only been at West Ham for five or six months so hopefully I can show them what I can do while I’m here and we can take it from there.

“It’s a great club and it’s somewhere I’d love to establish myself as the number one goalkeeper. It’s a fantastic club and fan base, the same as Ipswich is, but I want to be a Premier League goalkeeper and it’s my aim to be one with West Ham.”

Henderson moved to the Hammers in May after a brief loan spell and his first team experience has been restricted to two appearances in the Capital One Cup, a 2-0 home win over Crewe and a 4-1 defeat by Wigan at Upton Park.

He added: “It has been a bit frustrating at Upton Park but it’s down to me that I’m not in the team at the minute. I haven’t done enough to get in the side and I’d be the first to admit that.

“It’s probably for the best because there are a lot of keepers who have gone into the Premier League, it hasn’t gone for them and they’ve just disappeared.

“It obviously isn’t meant to be at the minute but being here and playing games will help me and hopefully help Ipswich as well.”

CLEAR OFF THEN!! Pointless loan he's been terrible n I know Loach has made a couple of errors but atleast he WANTS to be here n has ITFC in his heart, also didn't ask for stupid money to join us like this guy, I'd much rather Luongo in the side than Henderson, send him back Mick

Dream about it pal - you're lucky your not in a League 1 side struggling for a contract. Terrible keeper - give the job back to Loach. At least his heart is in it.

These players do get media training don't they? Seriously! Although we know it's true, don't go rubbing it in our faces that you'd rather be at West Ham when you've just picked the ball out of the back of our net 5 times. If footballers had brains they'd be dangerous.

Send him back Mick, this is disrespectful to contracted players and also fans.

The fact he's at Ipswich would suggest he's not even third choice at West Ham

Clearly isn't bothered about us, if he was that good he wouldn't have left bristol city.

0121 then fella it's time to get rid of these unnecessary loans. get loach back in, he is signed to us for three years what is the point in having a contracted keeper on the bench.Henderson will go back in Jan anyway and then loach will be lacking in confidence and match practise get him in now to build his confidence up.

We don't need players in our side who are talking about having a long term future with another club. Tell him to pack his bags and head back to London for second string football. Give me Scott Loach any day. Committed players are happy players!

Yeah go away if your future lays with West Spam, your no better than Loach, Loach should be put back in between the sticks.

Oh,and the only reason spammers bought him was so that pompey wouldn't go out and business and spammers lose 6 points.

Where's Wrighty? Surely he must be due back soon.

This is the problem with a rent-a-squad that Jewell created, Player with eyes for other places and not playing 100% for the team they're playing for. I understand that Loach maybe under par (though tbh I think its the defensive mistakes more than him) but at least we could rally around a Team that believe in themselves and the team.

I wish this idiot would just p1ss off back to West Ham.

Loach is a good young keeper who is going to make mistakes but will only improve with games.

Remember Richard Wright few mistakes while he was learning his trade, but he turned out OK.
