Reo-Coker Determined There Will Be No Repeat
Wednesday, 7th Nov 2012 10:56

Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker says he is determined that there will be no repeat of last night’s 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. The recent short-term signing felt he and his team-mates gifted the Eagles their five goals at Selhurst Park.

Reo-Coker said: “We all need to take responsibility for that performance and accept that it wasn’t good enough.

“It’s certainly not the level we know we can play at, so we need to ensure we don’t slip to that standard again.

“We weren’t good enough tonight and this is where we draw the line. We are not going to perform like that again and that performance stays here, we are not going to have that feeling in the dressing room after a game again.

“This is up to the players, myself included, to stand up and be counted. We didn’t defend anywhere near well enough tonight and that is down to the players, no one else.

“It was schoolboy defending. I have made it very clear in the dressing room that this will never happen again. They didn’t have to work hard at all to get the goals, we gifted them five through lazy defending and no will-to-win.

“We should all be embarrassed about it. You don’t concede three penalties in a game, not at this level.”

He says the squad need to put in a far better display against Burnley in Mick McCarthy's first home game in charge at the weekend: “We’ve got a big game on Saturday and we need to make sure we bounce back with a good performance.”

Totally agree LordMamu!!! I am supporting this club for 30+ years and this is really the worst site we had for these years. At the time everybody complained about John Duncan's time where we played the worst but this is far worse. And to compare when Duncan was Manager we had players like Dozzell, Lowe, Kiwomya, and etc. with veterans like Wark and Zondervan. Now we have a bunch of complainers. I really hope that Mick fix that. We need a very strong spine for Goalkeeper, central defenders, midfielders and strikers and good supporting players around them in order to get promoted. With this team we will avoid relegation - I am sure about that but is this the best we can hope for?

Heard it all before Nigel. You're only here for 3 months to get fit for a "bigger" club. Commit for a season or two, get a few pounds of lard off, & might respect your opinion. Otherwise just go away, along with Wellens.

boredwiththis now. he is not referring to itfc as them. hes talking about the players as them, just as any manager in other walks of life when talking to someone about his staff would refer to them as "them". seems to me youre already looking for an excuse to slag of yet another manager. a manager who has come in to an absolute mess and will need to be given time & support from everyone. blaggers, chambers playing very poorly right now???? yes, clearly had a bad game last night, but was superb on sat at birmingham, so guess you clearly werent there? and has been playing well for several games. whizzkid, youre right. his assessment is spot on. just find it sad that its only the loan/short term players that seem to be upset after bad performances. just wish wed hear from the longer term players. or, better still, as has been said, that theyd do their talking on the pitch. finally, ipswich 24. i agree about the last 3 seasons or so, but think we need to give mm the chance to sort the situation, which im very confident he will do regarding the playing staff. whether that proves to be too late to save us from relegation this season remains to be seen. but i am more confident now that should we go down, that with him as manager wed have a much better chance of coming back up at hte 1st attempt than had we kept pj

Disagree with the Chambers knocking ,he was very poor last night and made some basic errors but for me was our best player on saturday against Birmingham .It seems too many of our team can go from playing well too crap within a few days and has been our problem for many seasons now you dont know what team are going to turn up on the day

Blaggers: He was an absolute joke last night - I find his comments ridiculous because he was the main culprit. Slow, lazy, fat, overpaid with a massive ego to boot. Reason we are in such a mess - loads of loan players who don't give a monkey's about our club.

If you told me two years ago that Mick McCarthy was going to be our manager I would have openly wept but he is the man we need now to give these overpaid prima donnas a kick up the arse or show them the door.

We need to sign players who want to play for this club and start bringing through the youth as Palace have so successfully done as they showed last night.

have a plan for Nigel, as he has made me cringe at every interview he has done.. Personality check urgently required.. as for our bunch of poor loanees, only Campbell is worth his salt...

As others have said, Coker was the worst player on the pitch last night. He was blowing out of his backside after 10 minutes and had to walk around aimlessly for a few minutes to catch his breath before he started jogging around and looking for the ball. Another short burst, more misplaced passes, time for another rest as he ambled about looking disinterested. And he has the gall to say what he did - albeit I agree with his assessment!!

If MM Sticks with the bunch of loosers that turned up at Selhurst Park come on Marcus pick up the phone strike while the irons hot All players and MM listen to what the gov has to say. He should withdraw all bonus payments till we are mid- table which mean his cash is safe.

Same old. Same old. How many times have we heard this?

Reality: This bunch of players are not good enough and very few (loans) actually care. For all those who wanted PJ to stay ... this is the mess he made. Should have been sacked last year.

Players need to start doing their talking on the pitch, not in the press, cos at the minute and for some time they have let the last manager, the current manager and the supporters down. I know we cant win every week but we can expect more effort than some are giving at present.

Please stop talking a good game and start playing one! Talking like a leader is very different to being one nigel. The only way to lead is by example and from your example last night im not surprised no-one was running with any intent. You dont win games passing sideways and backwards then being caught on the ball and dispossessed - i can do that. Now shut up until you can hold your head up high and have earned the respect of the fans and your team mates.

Must admit bit hypocritical of Reo Coker to question other players commitment when he's only willing to sign for 3 months.

However he has a point, 3 pens in 11 minutes isnt good enough and the team seem so short of confidence they capitulate too often which MM will have to address in time.

One to definately forget and put behind them but that will only come with a good result saturday.

Pressures on!

Correct words from Reo-Coker, however he was crap last night and seemed well off the pace. They need to start doing they're talking on the pitch.
If we are to go down, I'd rather ditch the loanees and waster and play our kids like Hyam, Carson and Ainsley

Have to agree with many of the other comments. Reo-Coker reminds me of Emile Heskey - too bulky, especially his top half. Halfway through the second half at Palace, he was struggling big time. I don't like to say it, but I didn't see a problem with any of the penalties. If they'd not been given the other way round, we'd have been screaming for a decision. We seemed so much slower and less fit than the Palace. Bring on the youngsters. Pace always scares the sh*t out of defenders. After all, look what Zaha did to us.

does that mean he is going to commit to us and actually sign a sensible contract?
