Reo-Coker Determined There Will Be No Repeat
Wednesday, 7th Nov 2012 10:56

Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker says he is determined that there will be no repeat of last night’s 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. The recent short-term signing felt he and his team-mates gifted the Eagles their five goals at Selhurst Park.

Reo-Coker said: “We all need to take responsibility for that performance and accept that it wasn’t good enough.

“It’s certainly not the level we know we can play at, so we need to ensure we don’t slip to that standard again.

“We weren’t good enough tonight and this is where we draw the line. We are not going to perform like that again and that performance stays here, we are not going to have that feeling in the dressing room after a game again.

“This is up to the players, myself included, to stand up and be counted. We didn’t defend anywhere near well enough tonight and that is down to the players, no one else.

“It was schoolboy defending. I have made it very clear in the dressing room that this will never happen again. They didn’t have to work hard at all to get the goals, we gifted them five through lazy defending and no will-to-win.

“We should all be embarrassed about it. You don’t concede three penalties in a game, not at this level.”

He says the squad need to put in a far better display against Burnley in Mick McCarthy's first home game in charge at the weekend: “We’ve got a big game on Saturday and we need to make sure we bounce back with a good performance.”

Yeah yeah yeah - heard it all before Nigel....I don't rate any of the squad they can all bugger off - it's the worst side I've seen in 35 years of supporting the club.. get the broom out Mick.

omg! i was there last night and we looked a different team from sat,i just dont know what happened and some players are not fit to wear the ipswich shirt, and after half time it was that bad i even kept my carrier bag after eating my sandwiches and put it over my face because at some stages it was embrassing

No, Reo-Coker, although generously awarded MotM last night, was one of the few players to not have a shocker. You cannot defend in the manner that Luke Chambers did last night, 2 penalties conceded, and a lack of decisiveness for the first goal. Chambers is currently playing very poorly, and chopping and changing the goalkeeper has contributed to poor organisation at the back, and a lack of communication, which in itself was evident last night. If it means people stepping up and taking responsibility, then I am all for players telling it how it is.

Yadda yadda, the players wont let it happen again, yadda yada we really care honest guv. What guff - the club is riddled with overpaid waste of spaces that don't give a tom tit. And McCarthy is STILL referring to ITFC as "them" and not "us" - that bodes well............

McCarthy OUT !!!!

Only joking.... Looks like he'll certainly have to earn that million pound bonus though.

I've added a poll 'When will Town get out of the relegation zone'... get on and give it you vote

Cheers

1) He's right in his assessment
2) But, he wasn't very good himself - he looks quite a way from fitness to me, and seems to be carrying a good few pounds more than ideal (as am I, but I'm not paid to be an athlete...)
3) MoTM - really? Really? I wanted him subbed. Flippin' Eck.
4) But.......we DO need that kind of attitude. So, I hope it spreads, Nigel gets fit and shows some quality and we look back at last night as the Season's nadir.

Burnley same as palace cant defend against attack minded sides but can score, 29 for 29 against town 30 against got to play attacking football that is the recipe for points

He is a quality player no doubt ,he is simply not fit. So i fail to see how he can be better than the players who had a full pre season. Its all about recruitment, selection and basics. He played well on Saturday, but two games in 3 days is a step to far when his recovery would be slow after Saturday.Begs the question why he was selected.

This has been happening for so long now, over past three seasons we have been getting hammered on a regular basis. There is something seriously wrong at this club. We change managers it makes no difference. The players are not good enough! We have to many hasbeens what impression does that give to our OWN players, players who have come from the academy are not getting a chance because we would rather go with the big time charlies. We have no proper wingers or target man at the club. No strategy been going downhill for years.

Loach, Ainsley, N'Daw Smith, Higginbottom, Hyam, Loungo, Creswell, Edwards, Scotland, Campell. Play our full backs as wingers feel its there best position. Ainsley in at RB. Higgs at LB. Smithy & N'Daw CB's. 4-4-2. Cant be any worse than last night. Prob get a lot of minus votes but so what.

I've started to develop a pathological hatred of nearly everyone playing for and "managing" Town - is that wrong?

Ipswich24 - I think you're right except it is the players attitude that's not good enough, not necessarily their ability. They are not a cohesive unit. No wonder, with all the temporary personnel brought in this season. They obviously don't feel "all in it together" because most know that they aren't going to be around to suffer the consequences. Patently many have no self-respect. Little wonder we have no respect for them. Big, big changes needed.
