Henderson: Mick Has Given Us a Lift
Tuesday, 6th Nov 2012 10:43

Stephen Henderson has been taken aback by the sudden lift that new boss Mick McCarthy has given Ipswich Town.

The Irish goalkeeper, on loan from West Ham for three months, had suffered three consecutive defeats before the 1-0 weekend win at Birmingham in McCarthy’s first game at the helm.

Henderson, 24, said: “It’s unbelievable, honest to God. Since we’ve come in on Sunday and Monday it’s just been a different dressing room.

“The lads are absolutely buzzing and while I don’t want to jinx it I hope it’s the start of something good for Ipswich Town.

“It was very difficult beforehand because the confidence was affected. It wasn’t too bad, don’t get me wrong, but it’s been a lot better over the past few days.”

Nothing was going right for the club and Paul Jewell paid with his job as the team slumped to the bottom of the Championship.

They are still there going into tonight’s game at high-flying Crystal Palace and Henderson added: “It could all change tomorrow again but hopefully we will get a result.

“Even though it’s going to be a tough place to go it would be great to continue what we started on Saturday.

“There are several tough games coming up. Palace have a new manager and that’s going to do them a world of good, but we obviously have Mick here now and apart from lifting the players the team has a different look about it.”

I think that we've ALL (or at least MOST...) of us had a great lift with Mick's arrival.

I am starting, for the very first time in over FIVE YEARS to have the first feelings of quiet optimism about the future.

COYB!!!! and Come on Mick - lead us onwards and upwards!!!

Agree with you 'changingman' - don't get me wrong we could easily get beat tonight but MM seems to have got into the player's mind that failure will not be tolerated. Good luck to the blues tonight!

I would take a nil nil , we have to learn to defend at all costs. If we dont concede a goal the minimum is a point and a chance to nick one. Its going to be very tough tonight against a pacy powerful palace side. However we owe Holloway one for the 6.0 his Blackpool side dished us. Kepp positive and looking forward to the game.
I will post as soon as the game is finshed with a fans eye view for those who cant get there.

Great headline, Phil...I now can't get rid of the image of Mick Mac driving the team bus to away games, as well as managing the team!

I watched Mighty Mick on Skysports Monday talking about the switching of shirts at half time and it was really funny, he does'nt beat about the bush. For all those people that posted he was boring when there was talk of him coming to town, you couldn't be further from the truth. Long live King Mick and ITFC. COYB!!!!!

Hendo deserves some credit too, great keeper who struggled under PJ but is now ITFC's #1

In Henderson we trust!
