McCarthy Appointment Reportedly Close
Monday, 29th Oct 2012 23:09

Town are close to naming former Wolves, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Millwall boss Mick McCarthy as their new manager, according to national newspaper reports. The 53-year-old and ex-Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley have always been viewed as the frontrunners to succeed Paul Jewell since the Liverpudlian’s exit by mutual consent last week.

If confirmed, McCarthy is expected to be joined at Portman Road by his former Wolves assistant Terry Connor with former Blues skipper Matt Holland, who played for the one-time centre-half with Ireland, believed to be another prospective member of the Barnsley-born boss’s staff.

A three-year deal is understood to be on the table for McCarthy, who has been out of work since leaving Wolves in February after more than five years at Molineux.

In the summer he spoke to Nottingham Forest about their vacancy prior to Sean O’Driscoll’s appointment, while more recently he has been linked with the likes of Bolton, Burnley, Blackburn and Crystal Palace.

Town chief executive Simon Clegg said last week that he was hoping to have the new appointment in place before Saturday's game at Birmingham City.

Keeping up with all this on Twitter. You get to know the news first on there! He wasn't my choice but I reckon he could give these players a kick up the ***. It's what they need.

Welcome Mick!

Really hope this happens. We've got a bunch of players that need a major kick up the backside and an experienced head to get into their heads how bad a situation we are in. McCarthy would no doubt demand respect from the players the moment he walks in, and in the long term he has a great record of building good squads and buying well. Also, if the reports of Holland being in the backroom staff are true, we would really benefit from having somebody who knew how to wear the shirt with pride! COYB!

If its true then well done ITFC, we don't need any of this lets go down and build for the future rubbish. We are in a relegation fight and we need someone tough with a good track record who will get our current crop of very average players, playing out of their skins. Promotion comes later but when it comes it needs to be from Championship into the Premier.

Is he my first choice? No.
Will I back him 100% if appointed? Yes. Absolutely.

It's time for us fans to unite behind what would be a high class appointment for this club and trust him and his team to knock some heads together, to add quality, some direction, and tactical know how in order to put this shambles back in order. If he does that, he can stay as long as he likes.

I'd be pretty happy if this is true. Need a strong leader to get out of this mess. And he'll definately kick butt! He won't put up with some of those attitudes that seem to be rife in our team.

Will make the players proud to wear the shirt. Someone said to me at the weekend "you dont have to like em its what they can do for your club". I think thats right. Will add steel to our team and some much needed organisation. Good luck MM and welcome. May your reign be prosperous!
