Sheepshanks on Strike
Sheepshanks on Strike
Wednesday, 21st Nov 2001 10:07

David Sheepshanks has swiftly moved to comment on the impending players' strike. All negotiations have failed and PFA leader Gordon Taylor said last night that strike action would take place from December 1st.

All League games will be affected, although the PFA are happy for matches to go ahead, just as long as there are no camereas present. However, it is almost certain that the strike's lawfulness will be tested in the courts before it can go ahead.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks, a fierce opponent of the strike, says: "The Premier League, the Football League and the FA will test the legality of this case in the courts and a lot will depend upon that decision. But if this strike did go ahead, the damage to football would be severe. The television companies will seek to re-negotiate and that in turn will have a knock-on effect on players' wages and an entirely different point of view will be taken by the clubs as to how the good work of the PFA can continue."

Sheepshanks feels that the offer currently on the table should be more than accpetable to the PFA.
