Boyd Deal Could Be Revisited
Saturday, 1st Sep 2012 06:03

Paul Jewell says the Blues’ move for Peterborough’s George Boyd could be revived in the future. Boyd was at Portman Road with team-mate Paul Taylor on Wednesday but unlike the striker, who signed a three-year deal, was unable to agree terms.

Jewell said: “I met George here and his representatives met us and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“I don’t want to go into the nuances of that, it’s something I try not to get involved in anyway, but it might be revisited later on, he’s out of contract next year, it might not. As simple as that.

“He’s a good player, George, we would have liked him, but it couldn’t be done. At the moment, we’ve got to just deal with the players we’ve got for tomorrow and then after tomorrow try and improve the squad.”

The Blues boss wouldn't get into discussions on whether Boyd might come in on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the future: “He’s Darren Ferguson’s player, he’s a Peterborough player and that’s not really for me to say. We tried to get him, it didn’t happen. He’s not the only player that I’ve tried to get this week that didn’t happen.

“As I said to you at Southend, there are numerous players we’ve been in for but for different reasons they haven’t happened.”

The wages on offer at Town are understood to be a long way short of the deal Boyd was after, he is Peterborough’s highest-paid player, while it’s believed he was looking for a four-year contract, while a shorter-term deal was offered by the Blues.

Jewell says the former Stevenage man is on big money for a club of Peterborough’s stature: “I think with Boyd it’s well-documented that they’ve given him a decent contract there, but it’s not just down to money, there are different factors that I don’t really get involved in.”

As of lunchtime yesterday there had been no moves for any members of Jewell's squad aside from Ryan Stevenson, who rejoined Hearts on a free transfer: “There's been no interest in any of our players at the moment. I’d like to get a couple of the youngsters out on loan.

“I spoke to Ronan Murray today and we’re pleased with Ronan, but there’s nothing quite like playing real football. The U21s is all right but there’s nothing like playing in proper football.”

Whats the point in this story ?? Fans want players in now . The season has just started we dont want anymore bloody loans or want to wait til next year . Anyway if its another s**t season through lack of amition ITFC may just find the fans start to show their frustration with their feet and wallets . I for one wont be bying a season ticket to watch league one football .

Townietilidie - I think you ought to change your name if you are talking about walking away if we have a bad season after just three games! It is clear more players are coming in and those we have are good enough to do reasonably well in this League.

not happy with this for the past few years we have missed out on signing good players like Charlie Austin just because we could not pay enough wages and now a good player like George Boyd. We need to sign new players like this not on loans!!!!!!!!

As with most situations in life, you can't always have everything you want. Be satisfied people.

Stanwayblue ... Perhaps i got out of the wrong side of bed thismorning . Just gets a bit frustrating when you spend thousands on family season tickets with the promise of ambition and determinmation to take the club to the premier league each year . The truth is we have not moved forward at all sine Evans and Clegg arrived . We may be more financialy stable but the promise of taking us forward never comes and that shows when we fail to sign so many players to take us forward .I love this club thats why year after year i renew our tickets but like many im starting to feel cheated by the false promises each pre season that the next season will be better . You kind of missed my point . Even the manager says we are not good enough and i dont feel that enough is being done to put things right . Purely saying that if we continue to go backwards i shall not be paying thousands for myself and my kids to come to PR . Doesnt mean i shall stop supporting the team .

metaphorically ...when you are shopping on a budget don't go shopping at Harrods, sometimes when the budget is that tight you stay away from Waitrose too. Aldi can often do you a similar product at a much reduced price, sure beats starving to death
