N'Daw Set to Join On Loan
Thursday, 23rd Aug 2012 13:02

Town boss Paul Jewell says St Etienne midfielder Guirane N’Daw will undergo a medical this afternoon and is likely to complete a season-long loan move to the Blues by tomorrow.

Jewell said: “He came here yesterday and I spoke to him this morning, his agents are down the ground with Simon Clegg.

“As far as I’m aware, everything is agreed with St Etienne for him to come on loan for the season and he’s having a medical this afternoon.

“That doesn’t mean he’s signed but we’re very hopeful and by this time tomorrow everything will be done and dusted. Even if it is, I don’t think he’ll be available for Saturday [due to international clearance].

“It’s an area of the team where we are light, we are small, set plays can find us out at times. So, we need to add a bit of strength and power to the squad.

“Whoever comes in, it doesn’t mean they go straight into the team, a place in the team has to be earned.”

He says N'Daw has been on his radar for some time: “I spoke to [former Birmingham manager] Chris Hughton about him in the summer. He’s one we’ve been tracking for a while. He speaks very highly of him, he’s a Senegalese international.

“I think when he was in their team their results were strong. I remember watching him a match against West Ham when he got injured but was outstanding up to then.

“He never played against us as he was injured and because he’d just come back from the African Nations Cup. He’s a good player, he’s strong and powerful.”

While the 28-year-old can play at centre-half, Jewell views him very much as an additional midfield option: “He can play there, but we see him as a midfield player. We’ve got some good midfield players here, we want to add competition and help the group.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says he has still heard nothing new from Aston Villa regarding left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The Blues boss refused to be drawn on continuing speculation regarding a loan move for Reading striker Simon Church.

He also confirmed that Cameroonian trialist Yann Songo’o will not be offered a contract having been at the club for two weeks and having played for the U21s at Swansea on Monday.

bluey123, you have obviously had the wind taken out of your sails as we won at Watford, dominated most of the game, kept a clean sheet and left you little to moan about. I despair of supporters like you who simply will not support. Read some of the balanced comments around your pointless ramblings and try and see reason. The game now is about squad and not Hyam and 10 others. Yes, we are doing ok at the moment but younger players like Hyam, Luongo, Carson, JET etc. are not going to maintain a high consistency all season. In addition, we have lost 3 midfielders from last season's squad and only added Luongo so we need more bodies for the long season ahead. Try, just for once, to have a bit of lateral thinking and accept that Jewell, for all his errors of last season, hasn't done too badly this time around in the transfer market. All the negatives you attract to your comments ought to tell you something although somehow I doubt you will see through your bias. I suppose we need to lose at Blackpool and Carlisle to cheer you up!

As I have said before I support the club not the muppet in charge he has at last listened to people and as for we have lost 3 midfielders we were very heavy in that position anyhow.
As for him doing a good job that is crazy he has not signed a winger a CB or another striker this were we are short think of Hyam,Luongo, Drury, and other youth players please someone tell me what cover have we for CBs for LW or ST he has again shown poor judgement the man is useless,he has been forced into the team he has played because of departures not through any of his doing JEWELL OUT

This must mean no Edu then as similar players. Jewell obviously enquired but wages are too much.

The budget Edu. We miss a tank smashing up midfield, sometimes we will need a player like this and Hyam is the future for me but we also need a physical presence against the leagues stronger sides.

Get another good striker in and we have a decent side.

bluey123 I know were you are coming from and I share your frustration that we havent been able to sign the players we wanted earlier and I also dont like loan players.

But this is the modern way of the transfer market, everythings done at the last minute and pj made a great point the other day that if the window shut on the 1st of August before the season starts, it would cut out all this nonsense leading up the the end of August. No one seems to win in the current transfer window system except for agents who tend to take advantage out of clubs who get desperate.

I think pj is desperately trying to get the right players in. Lets try and judge him come January rather than now especially as we have have such a promising start to the season.

As we are starting to look like a club that shops around in the 'bargain basement' and as we are after back up in central defence and are after a bit of height on the cheap we may as well give a trial to ex Leeds Utd & Carlisle Utd player Lubomir Michalik who is 6' 5" and currently a free agent. I'd go with another post suggesting we give a trial to another free agent James McFadden.
