Jewell: I've Made No Approach for Rangers Midfielder Edu
Tuesday, 21st Aug 2012 22:44

Town boss Paul Jewell says that the Blues haven’t made an offer to Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu, contrary to their manager Ally McCoist’s comments yesterday. The Blues manager says he hasn’t spoken to McCoist about the US international.

Jewell said: “We haven’t made Maurice Edu an offer. We can’t make an offer to Maurice Edu or to any player unless we’ve agreed with the club, it’s illegal to do that.”

Some reports have suggested Edu is available on a free transfer as he hasn’t transferred his contract to the Rangers newco but Jewell says he’s not familiar with the situation: “I don’t know because I haven’t asked the question.

“I spoke to Ally McCoist in the summer about a player who is in Scotland and that’s the only conversation I’ve had with him. I haven’t asked him about Maurice Edu.”

As I pointed out in Phil's article yesterday, the BBC website quoted McCoist as saying "AS FAR AS I KNOW, Ipswich have made him an offer which he has not accepted". So he was just speculating on web rumours. Told you so.

In fairness, he might not be lying. They may have offered his agent a deal and not Edu himself, and he wouldn't have asked Ally McCoist as he hasn't needed to due to free agent status. Could be a very clever use of words.

Just seen on Sky Sports he's off to Stoke...bit of a shame but never really expected him to come anyway, besides Luongo and Hyam have been outstanding these first two games so hopefully don't need him! Great 3 points tonight..COYB!

PJ is normally quite up front about players so there would have been no harm in saying, yes we made an offer. Alot of people would like him to sign so I'm sure if we had made an offer he would have said so. The only reason I can think of is that he wants to keep it as closed as he can so other clubs dont here about it. Another thing is that we haven't been interested in many players lately so alot of false speculation will be put around just to fill columns.

See Bristol City have signed Baldock on a 3 year deal and they have Davies as well.

Can we not compete with teams like Bristol City and it looks like no new striker will be here by the end of August or any of the 3 Jewell say we need

The Major cant even get new bookies in for start of season, expect he wants too much for the franchise;so he just doesnt dither about in the transfer market.I wonder what PJ really thinks of the support(or lack of it)he is receiving from his employers. As Michael Caine would say,not a lot of people know this;but in this close season so far expenditure similar to 24 yrs ago when Messrs Linighan and Hill were bought for about £400k.

Seasider. Are the wages spent on our summer signings the same as 24 years ago as well?

Good player and he would expect wages to match.

Too rich for us. I expect he will be on 30-50k per week.

Haven't seen the ssn report but stoke are about to sign tom Huddleston he's having a medical now seems unlikely they would sign both. (similar type players I think) so if he does go good luck to him but I think there is something more in this than first appears
