Bury Confirm Scowcroft Taking Role With Town Academy
Monday, 23rd Jul 2012 11:01

Bury Town have confirmed that former Blues striker James Scowcroft has taken up a coaching role at Playford Road, as revealed by TWTD a week ago. Scowcroft had recently been appointed assistant manager at Ram Meadow but will now be replaced by former Cambridge and Luton defender Ben Chenery, who coincidentally also began his playing career as an Ipswich Town youth player.

West Suffolk boy Scowcroft, 36, hung up his boots while with Bury last season having previously played with Leicester, Crystal Palace, Coventry and Leyton Orient after leaving Town in the summer of 2001, having come through the Blues' youth system.

We understand Scowcroft, who also worked in the media last season, will be taking up a part-time role at Playford Road.

As reported last week, former Town coach Steve Foley has also been offered a role in the academy under returning director Bryan Klug. Former keeper Richard Wright is also believed to be weighing up whether to take on a position with his hometown club's youth set-up.

Pleased to have some of the old town lads in the set up, wondering if we need more experience blended in with youth? We have the likes of Webster - who can teach Wright to coach if he joins, but where does Scowy fit in, whos teaching him? Dont we need an experienced striking coach too, or have we got one i have forgotten about?

Wilnis back next?

Am actually getting a good vibe coming out of town at the moment, really hoping it translates onto the pitch! People who want to be at ITFC signing up to develop the training and behind the scenes setups, great news! Hope for a couple more decent signings and I think we'll finally be in a position to develop the club to the next level again.

Or failing that, Chris Kiyomya's career bombed pretty much as soon as he left Town. I bet he's not up to much these days..!

I am chuffed to bits about this. I thought his media work last year demonstrated how knowledgable he is, he always spoke a huge amount of sense when I heard him or read him in the star.
