Scowy and Foley to Join Academy
Monday, 16th Jul 2012 22:58

TWTD understands that former striker James Scowcroft and ex-coach Steve Foley are to join Bryan Klug’s academy coaching staff. The EPPP shake-up of the academy system means clubs like Town who are opting for Category Two need to appoint additional staff this summer.

Scowcroft, who until last season was still playing for Bury Town, came through the Blues’ youth system under Klug in the mid-nineties and made his first team debut in the 1996/97 season.

The 36-year-old went on to make 204 starts and 50 sub appearances for Town, scoring 55 goals, before moving to Leicester in the summer of 2001. A loan spell in 2005 saw three more Town starts and six sub appearances without scoring.

Scowcroft subsequently spent time with Crystal Palace, Coventry and Leyton Orient before moving to Bury Town, where he has been coaching since he hung up his boots midway through last season, while also working in the media.

Foley joined the Blues coaching staff after leaving Norwich City in 2006 during Jim Magilton’s time as manager. He was jettisoned in the summer of 2010 when Roy Keane was in charge.

Foley

The 59-year-old played for Colchester for 10 years and was also a coach and caretaker-manager at Layer Road. Born in Clacton, Foley has also coached at Watford and has recently been working with non-league Leiston and appearing as a pundit on Radio Suffolk.

Elsewhere, Brad Guzan, who was linked with the Blues in March, has signed a new three-year deal with Aston Villa, having previously decided to leave the Premier League side at the end of last season.

what about Fabian? As for Dozzell, he has definately made mistakes over the years BUT his soccer school is excellent, he is a very good coach and the kids love him so maybe he could be a 'do as i say and not as i did' role model? Scowie gives a very honest oppinion about town, def not a rosy glasses type so thats interesting, his heart is clearly in the club so its great to see us turning back to a club which employs genuine passion for the club.

James Scowcroft speaks very well and has a lot of respect I think, including from Marcus Evans who consulted him over the choice of manager. Welcome back James.

As for Steve Foley, it seems like another piece of Keane's damage has been updone.

Darren Oxbrow is also set to join the coaching set up too alongside James Scowcroft. The academy looks like it has a good future with these appointments!

Good to see Scowy back at the club - just don't tell Jewell because at 36 he's probably still young enough to get picked by him for the team!

It seems odd to me that people assume that someone in their Forties is the same as they were twenty years ago. I'd love to see Chris Kiwomya back, and I wouldn't make a judgement on Jason based on how he was when he was a young man.

as Dozzell's son currently plays for the academy it could be a conflict of interest if they brought him on board - love to see Dozzell junior make it though.

When I hear Scowie speak on the radio, and read his column in the local press, he comes accross as very balanced and knowledgeable indivudual, with a perception and vision beyond perhaps what I would expect of someone who is only in thier mid 30's. I am very pleased to welcome him back to our club.

As for Steve Foley, I think it goes without saying that his experience and knowledge will prove invaluable to the young lads.

Well done Bryan, you have made a fantastic start.

@ Andy but ppl do change don't they. Phil Whelan is now a respected school teacher which goes to prove that point.

Nobody has mentioned Matty Holland,I know he has done a lot of media work;but I think he would be good management material if he so desired, let alone coaching.

Welcome back Scowie..one of Burley's biggest (and only) mistakes in letting him go in the first place.

Scowie - an excellent and articulate gentleman and a great addition to the ITFC setup. As for the talk of Dozzell, I can only assume that people are extracting the urine as he is as much of a role model as Kieron Dyer and Danny Sonner when they all used to be out on the town on week nights!

Delighted that Scowy is coming on board. Both on Radio Suffolk and in his EADT column he talks 100% sense. Town manager of the future?

More pedigree returns - absolutely good news - all we will eventually need (hopefully) - is a Manager who knows East from West / North from South, and a CEO who knows Football. Or am I just dreamin' ?

Wait for the post from someone who says :- 'Don't know what you mean' by that !!
