Bolton Still Favourites for Lonergan
Bolton Still Favourites for Lonergan
Monday, 16th Jul 2012 10:22

Bolton Wanderers remain the favourites to sign Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan, despite late interest from the Blues and Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports this morning. The 28-year-old former Preston man, previously a Town target during Jim Magilton’s time as manager, was said to be the subject of Town interest at the end of last week.

Bolton have long been seen as the frontrunners for Lonergan’s signature and are understood to have had a bid turned down by the Whites earlier this month. The Elland Road club are believed to want £200,000 for the keeper, who has two years left on his contract.

Meanwhile, the Town squad arrived at their hotel near Eindhoven yesterday for their training camp, which runs until Friday.

The Blues play friendlies against Helmond Sport at their Stadion De Braak on Tuesday (KO 7pm local time) and Den Bosch at their 3,500-capacity Trainingscomplex, which is in Jan Sluytersstraat, on Thursday (KO 7pm local time).

Prior to the Helmond Sport match, a team of Town fans plus Blues legend Frans Thijssen, assembled by Spirit of 78, are facing a Helmond supporters XI in a game which will also be played at the Eerste Divisie club’s main stadium (KO 4pm). TWTD will be in Holland on the tour with Phil playing in the fans’ game.

Squad: Ainsley, Bullard, Carson, Chambers, Chopra, Cresswell, Delaney, Drury, Edwards, Emmanuel-Thomas, Hewitt, Hyam, Lawrence, Lee-Barrett, Martin, Murray, Scotland, Stevenson, Whight.

If Paul Jewell doesnt sign a new keeper on a permanent basis this summer he should be sacked. No question.

How can we go thru pre -season with one goalie. We are supposed to be a professional club not the local pub 11 . Someone must be lined up or we risk becoming a laughing stock . What happened to get them in early i think Jewell is being restricted big time . We saved money on wages this time last year then got people in right at the start of the season . Our new sponsor should be Last Minute.com at least we are saving again on wages .As FFP gets nearer we need to be proactive to build ateam that will fill the stadium not start the season with an active squad of 18 . Lets start with the Goalkeeper.

This club is very quickly becoming a bit of a joke I live in the North East and people up here are saying how sorry they are the ITFC are looking very poor. Why have we got the same situation as last year surely 12 months was long enough to find a suitable goalkeeper and sort out the mess? No point is getting a solid defence if we have a goalkeeper who's going to let in goals at an alarming rate. Like most people on here starting to get very worried for next season especially with only 1 keeper on the books

jas0999. before you accuse me thinking pj is a great manager, im neither for or against him. clearly you dont like him, as is your right, but before critising him you should at least get your facts right 1st. yes, he released fulop, due to the fact he was on high wages & not assured of a 1st team place. that was a good decision imo. as for murphy? he wasnt released, he was offered a new deal, but rejected it in favour of becoming 3rd choice at qpr. so blaming pj for that is churlish. im just as concerned as you that we still not signed a keeper, tho im fairly certain that will be addressed in the next week or so. if not then questions should be asked. phil, whats happened to the german keeper coming on trial btw, or was that another red herring thrown our way by pj

Bluey was spot on with chambers. So if its a player we can't sign yet could he be at rangers? Alan McGregor anyone?

LUDICROUS to go on a pre season tour with only one keeper available.

Anyone who thinks this is fine - I suggest you think again, because this Club across the country, is now being looked upon as a joke - I personally have friends and family in various parts that CANNOT believe what has happened to the Club.

And we still have (satisfied charlies) who are happy with the course of events - no names mentioned, but we all know the said brigade membership list (doesn't change).
Watch them rear their heads !!
No doubt this post will instigate the same futile drivel in terms of excuse, and of course condoning everything, as per normal.

We all know that PERFECTLY ADEQUATE GOALKEEPERS HAVE BEEN, AND ARE, AVAILABLE - but we do NOTHING.

There are 'potential' outfield signings out there that would not be impressed with this I assure you - in terms of putting question marks against the Team prospects, and Club ambition - rightly so - and another 'shot in the foot'.

Let's get some sensible LEADERSHIP back into this Club - however that may be - AND SOON.

Blues1 - Since when has Jas0999 ever let facts get in the way of rubbishing 'PJ'??? I expect that something is in place for the 2 keepers we need and the club are right not to divulge that information until they have signed, even if that does leave the supporters more than a little frustrated. However if they are still not clear on who our No1 will be then that would be a big worry, but I'm happy to be patient for now...

There's 66 goalkeeper's listed on pfa website listed as out of contract. One has since signed for Cardiff and one for Villa, so we cant go too long without a new number 1, 2 or even 3.
