Bolton Still Favourites for Lonergan
Bolton Still Favourites for Lonergan
Monday, 16th Jul 2012 10:22

Bolton Wanderers remain the favourites to sign Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan, despite late interest from the Blues and Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports this morning. The 28-year-old former Preston man, previously a Town target during Jim Magilton’s time as manager, was said to be the subject of Town interest at the end of last week.

Bolton have long been seen as the frontrunners for Lonergan’s signature and are understood to have had a bid turned down by the Whites earlier this month. The Elland Road club are believed to want £200,000 for the keeper, who has two years left on his contract.

Meanwhile, the Town squad arrived at their hotel near Eindhoven yesterday for their training camp, which runs until Friday.

The Blues play friendlies against Helmond Sport at their Stadion De Braak on Tuesday (KO 7pm local time) and Den Bosch at their 3,500-capacity Trainingscomplex, which is in Jan Sluytersstraat, on Thursday (KO 7pm local time).

Prior to the Helmond Sport match, a team of Town fans plus Blues legend Frans Thijssen, assembled by Spirit of 78, are facing a Helmond supporters XI in a game which will also be played at the Eerste Divisie club’s main stadium (KO 4pm). TWTD will be in Holland on the tour with Phil playing in the fans’ game.

Squad: Ainsley, Bullard, Carson, Chambers, Chopra, Cresswell, Delaney, Drury, Edwards, Emmanuel-Thomas, Hewitt, Hyam, Lawrence, Lee-Barrett, Martin, Murray, Scotland, Stevenson, Whight.

PJ needs to act now and address the keeper situation. I know there are plenty of people on here who think PJ is a great manager - but it was he who released Murphy and Fulop last pre-season (fair enough) but it was also he who failed to bring in a new PERMANENT GK. 12-18 months to sort this seems like enough time.

Rapidly running out of available 'keepers.

Why isn't Neil Alexander at Rangers an option?

Another good keeper, but if bolton interested hard to see him look elsewhere unless its first team footy his after as unless bogdan leaves i cant see him getting it there. ALB is just not good enough for #1 in my opinion, others may disagree but i think his way too shakey, and he has had the support of fans on top of that. He has a role at the club but im afraid i cant see it past the bench. Saying that whoever PJ decides to go with come kick off against blackburn they will have my support, coz thats what fans do! Coyb.

we are had our chances this summer to bring in a goalkeeper and they have chosen another team so doesnt that tell us something,i no jewell doesnt want to spend big but how much time do you want, and the way its going he will panic a buy a nobody and hopes it will pay off,and marcus evans must be wondering if he will ever see any return coz at the moment we dont have any chance of premier league football

We'll probably end up re-signing Dickie Wright as back up with ALB as no 1

My colleagues at work have linked me with an Egg and Bacon sandwich for lunch. Of course that is wrong, as i intend to have a low calories chicken salad sandwich.

As interesting as this story on someone we have not bid for etc.

I wonder what drink i will have. perhaps a cup of tea but with one or two sugars- that is the question.

Next non story please.

TractorRoyNo1 if you can't see a problem you are a person very happy to be in the Championship. I'm not, steady goalkeeper is all important the Town chances and plus a manager who knows this. Be happy TractorroyNo1 you are one of many.

I think you will find Jewell already has a GK lined but the club can't sign him yet! As for this Lonergan story this is absolute rubbish Ipswich have never enquired or shown any interest in him

As stated last week Coyle on record showing his interest ,nothing from Ipswich .Agent doing his job by scouting other clubs who are obviously in market for a keeper .
Keeper on way just be patient

Richard Wright !!!

And JAS if your mighty Keano hadnt wasted £1 million on dodgy keepers ,perhaps Jewell wouldnt be in the position of having to find a keeper and would have more funds

Bluey was right about Luke Chambers;so maybe has inside info.Would be surprised if PJ hadn't somebody in mind as it is the priority before start of season, but disappointing that lost out to Hull and Brighton on two other targets, and we still have difficulty persuading players to come to Portman Rd when there is stiff competition.
It worries me somewhat about the constant propaganda eminating from the club, especially The Major about how cash strapped we are now;since Connor Wickham was sold just over a year ago the club has spent approx £2m of the estimated £8m received.I realise there are other overheads but so there are at other clubs and ITFC has only spent £250k this close season, this is on a par with 1988 when David Linighan cost £300,000 from Shrewsbury and David Hill £80,000 from Scunthorpe in the 1988 close season and much less than 20 years ago when Geraint Williams was bought from Derby for £650000 in the 1992 close season.

Seasider, in those days the fees were the big numbers. Since then we have had the bosman ruling. Now wages are the big number. That's the difference . . .
