The Beat Says Sorry
The Beat Says Sorry
Thursday, 24th May 2012 16:05

Town legend Kevin Beattie is on Mark Murphy’s Radio Suffolk show on Friday morning talking about his benefit fraud conviction (9am).

An apologetic Beat will speak about what it's like to be tagged and on curfew and describes his fall from grace in his own words.

The ex-England international says he wasn't aware he should have been declaring his Radio Suffolk income: "I'm a thick footballer and my brains are in my feet. I never meant to let people down.

"After time things catch up and rightly so. It was a silly mistake on my behalf. I didn't realise I had to declare what I was earning."

Beattie, who will be under curfew between 8pm and 7am added: "After 58 years the penny has dropped, it definitely won't happen again."

The Carlisle-born former defender will continue to work with Radio Suffolk.

Radio Suffolk can be heard on 95.5FM, 95.9FM, 103.9FM and 104.6FM or online here.

The Beat was always ''the man'' in his playing days, he has put his hand up and apologised to this error of judgement, that takes a man . Put it behind you Beat and lets all move on .

The BBC should say sorry for the pathetic amount they pay to someone they pimp on air as a Legend ... pay him like a Legend then BBC Radio Suffolk.

Right to apologise. Now time to draw a line under this.

Still the greatest player ever for the club. He played through pain and injuries, often with cortizone injections. Sir Bobby would push him to play, even though it would eventually end his footballing career. A genuine kind person off the pitch as well. How can the club stand by and watch his slide into this dark despair?
It pains me to see it.

Steven Wright has never said sorry, he maintains his innocence. But I get your point.

Accepted Kevin, you held your hand up and and admitted you did wrong, i hope the person who shopped you can sleep at night. If your name was not Kevin Beattie it would never have gone to court.

Hold on a cotton picking second... Whoever this may be has cheated the system and been caught ! How long would he have carried on picking up these benefits if no one had found out ?? Hmmm yes I thought so. As someone who has paid taxes for the last 25 years month in month out I'm pleased that someone who is not entitled to such benefits is no longer receiving what I and other taxpayers contribute to ! Yes he was a good player but we each choose which path to take ... Sad but true !!

Silly boy but it's reported that the BBC only pay him £45 for afternoon games and £75 for evening games.
Compare this with the £40,000 that Alan Hansen gets for an appearance on MOTD and he wasn't fit to lace Kevin's boots.

I think a certain person on here need to be a little careful what they say. The man is a true Ipswich legend. I guess you think you big and clever trying to belittle the man that is KEVIN BEATTIE. Everyone in there lifetime makes a proper howler at some point, even KB. Don't mean you need to come on here and slate the poor bloke and think that us true supporters will sit here and not respond to such dribble. i still think your great beats and im sure there is many on here who will agree with me.

I wonder what the history of some of 'the Beats' critics would reveal ????? - HYPOCRITES potentially spring to mind is my guess.

BEAT YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE LEGEND - NEVER FORGET IT - and forever hold your head high.

Kevin Beattie the man, the legend, the best the club has ever been fortunate to have had as a player has admitted he was wrong. Once again he has stood up and been counted.
