Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town
Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town
Wednesday, 2nd May 2012 13:36

Town boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect Daryl Murphy to be with the Blues for 2012/13. The 29-year-old has been on loan from Celtic this season, his second spell at Portman Road, and Jewell is keen to keep him, but feels the Irish international is out of the club’s price range.

Jewell said: "I don't think Daryl will be back here next year. I spoke to him and his agent a few times and we would have liked to have kept him but he's still got another year left on his contract at Celtic.

"We are grateful to Celtic for letting him come here but I think if we wanted to bring him here next season they would want a fee, and you can understand that. He's on decent wages as well. It's a deal that is out of our price range."

Waterford-born Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances during 2011/12, almost all on the left of midfield, and scored four goals.

Simple, don't sign him. Also itfc1981 I'd love for Evans to sell up. Give it to someone who actually cares, he can take Clegg with him!

I can understand fans wanting him to stay. But our lack of aerial threat in a physical league is not a good reason to buy a 29 year old on big wages. He may put a shift in (although in the Burnley away game he was awful - although hardly alone in that respect), but that's the least we should expect of all of our players. I hope we move away from too many loans and get in some hungry players who want to prove themselves at this level. Reading signed Le Fondre, a player we were linked with several times, for £300K from a lower league team. That's who we should be targeting. I don't remember Burley or Robson building great teams by signing big time Jessies.

Hollywoodginge, not baffling at all if you watched the games. Agree with Keanish, he was ok but never beat the man - no pace. Boyd wouldn't be a bad shout..
