Jewell: JET Going Nowhere
Jewell: JET Going Nowhere
Friday, 27th Apr 2012 07:00

Town boss Paul Jewell says midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will be going absolutely nowhere this summer. The 21-year-old ex-Arsenal man’s form in the second half of the season has attracted the interest of Premier League clubs with scouts from Fulham and QPR regular visitors to Portman Road to catch him in action.

Jewell has received no enquiries regarding any of his players but even if he had, Emmanuel-Thomas would be going nowhere.

“I’ve received no interest at all,” he said. “I keep saying that I don’t think anyone’s got our phone number because no one ever rings me to ask about any of our players. But Jay’s not going anywhere. Absolutely not."

The Blues boss believes the Londoner has become a fans’ favourite as the season has progressed: “He’s always had ability, I think everyone knows that.

“When we first brought him here I could see the crowd were going to love him or hate him. He lumbers around the pitch but he’s taken to the role and I think Ipswich fans have taken to him.

“I think every time he gets the ball, we’re all guilty of it, he gets you off your seat and you think something’s going to happen, but it’s not always going to happen.

“He’s got into the situation where he realises he’s doesn’t have to do something special with the ball all the time.

“He’s maturing all the time, he’s only young and, as I’ve said, he needs to get fitter. Playing so many games at a high intensity has been a bit of a shock to him and I’m sure he knows what’s expected when he comes back for the first day next year.”

I've heard it all now - we want to replace Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with Ross Wallace. Genius.

Can't see JET wanting to leave anyway, even if we did get a silly offer, which we won't.

How about this for an idea Phil? Incorporating a filter so that those contributors who don't want to read some of the purely negative comments (I'm not talking about constructive criticism) can choose to filter out those who spend their whole time moaning about PJ,Clegg,Carlos,Leadbitter etc.
The people on my list include Newboy,AlanMahon2011,Walberswick and ITFC 1981.
Jas would have been on it but I generally enjoy his posts now that he seems to have stopped his PJ out rants.
This post is not totally tongue-in-cheek - I enjoy reading comments ,even when critical, that are written by people who appear to have the best interests of the club at heart. And of course the people filtered out would be chosen (or not) individually by each reader.
How about it Phil?

If I had a quid for every time I've read a statement from a manager saying his player's "going nowhere"... Let's just hope this time it really is true.

Wickham on loan next season does sound good but just look at Sunderlands options up front they've hardly got any strikers with Gyan and Bendtner gone at the end of the season so perhaps he'll have his break through year. even so, his wages could be around £20k+ a week now so we might not want to blow a big bulk of our budget on a one year loan.

Wickham could be the difference between us making the play offs or not.

Reunite him with Scotland and they'll get goals.
