Carson Signs Deal
Carson Signs Deal
Thursday, 23rd Feb 2012 17:24

Midfielder Josh Carson has signed his new Town contract. The Northern Irishman has put pen to paper on two-year deal with an option for a third season.

Tweeting after signing in chief executive Simon Clegg's office this afternoon, Carson said: "Signed, sealed, delivered! Buzzing!"

Speaking to the club site, the 18-year-old added: "Obviously I'm delighted that it's done and dusted now and I've signed here for the next two years.

"I've not got involved in the negotiations, I've left that to my agent but there was never any doubt that I'd be staying here.

"I'm still only 18 and over the next two years I want to build on what I have done so far and get myself in the first-team week-in, week-out.

"That's my immediate target to play as much first team football as I can at Ipswich Town. I've come up through the ranks here and I really want to help the club push on."

Wow, would make any agent think twice about negotiating.

Let's hope Carson does well enough to get a revised contract soon!!
(he's got a tough job right now!)

Mark. I'll be honest. I think that due to rise of the internet and such like, and sites like TWTD (which I thoroughly enjoy using) too much publicity is given to these issues.

In the good old days, when we only had newspapers, radios and TVs with 4 channels, there was not the continual pressure for media organisations to come up with new stories all the time.

Have to agree with both Garv & Sindre94. WE had to sign him shows us that we r going forward & investing in our up & coming players. Think Tommy Smith deserves something now

Great news. Now Carson - a young up and coming player - should be on the bench ahead of some of PJ's golden oldie, injury prone signings.

Excellent News - now let's get a few more of the youngsters signed up while we still have some.

ACADEMY ONE - Clegg - don't give us any excuses to the contrary - and let's get some true Ipswich pedigree back into the Club i.e Bryan Klug - asap.

Oh like Leadbitter (25) and Bullard (missed about two weeks in a year through injury) Jas? Idiot.

I've argued that Carson should be on the bench but had people put me straight by explaining that we have a number of possible wide players in the starting line up who aren't already playing there (Drury, Martin, Edwards, to add to JET and Murphy).

But in terms of central players we only have Hyam and Drury, so it makes sense to have two central players on the bench, and with Drury and Hyam being very different players, just like Bullard and Leadbitter are, it could could come in handy.

And nobody can argue that Carson should be starting.

Sindre94.. why would you ask where all the jewell haters are? do you like negative posters? this is fantastic news and i am really pleased, there is no need for any negativity on this thread. I have been very critical of jewell, 7 seven losses on the bounce deserves and will get criticism( think jewell would agree as well). BUT.. its time to move on, jewell can really get in my good books when he signs the defenders we are desperate for, but for now this is fantastic news and with these younger guys we look forward to a much brighter future, compared to a final pay packet type of club we were becoming... with the ellingtons, bowyers, ingimarsons etc... youngsters with fire in their belly, is the way forward . to quote the late great Bobby Robson, " if you're good enough , you're old enough"...COYB

At last! Good stuff, looking forward to seeing him push on.

However, not demanding to see him on the bench immediately. He's young and largely unproven, developing as a player and one for the future. Would rather see him grow into a permanent place in the team for next season and the one after (by which time he'll still only just be 21) than insisting he's included now at all costs.

Great news. Well done Josh, a lot of Town supporters are going to be very pleased about this.
A statement of intent by the Club hopefully , by looking long term at a more youthful team.

Dissboyitfc - we've locked horns previously over Club issues, but I am pleased to say I agree totally with every word of your post. Spot on.

I'd forgotten just how young he was. Considering how good he is already, he's quite a prospect.

Good news, hopefully he'll settle down now after a promising first season in the team last year but hasn't quite lived up to expectations this season.
