Reading Keeper to Sign Three-Month Deal by Wednesday
Reading Keeper to Sign Three-Month Deal by Wednesday
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 20:20

Reading keeper Alex McCarthy will join the Blues on a three-month loan in time to make his debut at Birmingham on Wednesday, TWTD understands. Contrary to earlier reports, the deal is not yet done but it appears that only formalities are left to be completed.

McCarthy confirmed his move on Twitter, also commenting on the quality of the accommodation Town had put him in: "Hotel is decent, better than what I thought, time for sleep now. Night tweeps!

"[...]finished loan at Leeds last week. At Ipswich now!"

Manager Paul Jewell has previously said that the Blues are keen on signing an additional glovesman to compete with Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright, former loanee David Stockdale having been recalled by Fulham last month.

Guildford-born 6ft 4in-tall England U21 cap McCarthy came through the Royals’ youth system and has had prior loan spells at Woking, Cambridge United, Team Bath, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Brentford in addition to a six-game spell at Leeds in November and December last year.

Meanwhile, Neil Warnock’s sacking by QPR has already led to speculation that the former Sheffield United boss may be the man to succeed Paul Jewell at Town if and when owner Marcus Evans decides on making a change.

Warnock, who was linked with the Blues after Jim Magilton’s exit, knows Evans and had praise for the club when speaking after Town’s defeat at Loftus Road in February: “The club’s very stable, there are good people behind [Paul], Marcus is a good person to work for.

“And the fans down there, bloody hell, they’re second to none, aren’t they? It’s a great opportunity for everybody down there.”

Warnock was fairly rubbish at Palace, lest we forget, and his Sheffield United teams were just... horrible. And his QPR side smacked of the same sort of policy for which Jewell has been (rightly) criticised - a lack of continuity, over-reliance on old nags and lack of faith in youth. So I hope Colin decides to call it a day and retire to Cornwall.

I was expecting us to sign that Australian GK who played for Scum in the 1-7 defeat against Col U.

Did anyone else go to the Hull game yesterday? What a lack of commitment, passion and quality from nearly every player. It will take somebody like Neil Warnock to come in and shake things up! By the way, you can't build a team for the future with average loan players!

Is Alex one of the two players PJ was trying to get in? The other must be St Ledger. If this is all he has got up his sleeve then we are in trouble with only Sonko and Smith the only other two central defenders fit. We will also be in trouble up front if Scotland is no longer allowed to play. Very poor management by PJ and Clegg, get Warnock in toute suite!

WTF?! What a waste of time, a loan signing for 3 months. Forget it Jewell. Get us two decent CB's and a quality RB to sit in front of Barrett & then review the GK position in the summer, is you are still here!

As for people saying we would be better off getting relegated to re-group, WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH. THAT WOULD BE A DISASTER - GET REAL!!

Not heard of him before. Just how good is he if he can't get into Reading's first team?

As for Neil Warnock, no thank you. I can't stand the man. PJ is still the manager, and I still believe he'll turn it round. COYB!

What was it people were saying on here the other day? Ah yes that's right, we need a young ambitious manager who is hungry to succeed. That'll be 63 year old Neil Warnock then. Grass is always greener!
Would still have Clegg Clegg the clown pulling strings though.
Oddly though I do think Warnock at CB along with Delaney may be worth a punt. He's young enough to play of course.

Mr jewell got Bradford promoted 14 years ago, resigned, went to Sheffield wed, resigned, got Wigan promoted in 2007, resigned, went to derby, resigned.

You can't harp on about what he has done given how long ago he did it and look at the mess derby were left in. Has resigned from all 4 jobs which tells you something about the man.

When Warnock took over at qpr they were down near the bottom and look at the players he was able to get in and get out of the them. A passionate Yorkshire man who will take no sh**. The worst thing for this football club would be to go down and 2 scrappy wins in 13 games is relegation form.

If Warnock was available when keane got sacked I get a feeling he would be here now. We are in hell of a mess for a young up and coming manager to sort out.

No wins this week could all put us out of the misery from the scouse comedian. Would like anyone who thinks he can turn it round to explain how given the run we have had with Collins and Andrews in the side.

As for the keeper, alb will stick 2 fingers up at jewell now and who can blame him. As for anyone who hasn't heard of him he played against us for reading last season aor weren't you there.

A big big week for this club.

Warnock is the man we need. He likes Ipswich, takes no s**t and has what it takes to get this club where it belongs.
Face the bloody facts you rose tinted glasses people!!! We are going nowhere under Jewell, what can't speak can't lie! look at the league table for god's sake, we are not making any progress at all after letting him 13 players and giving him a year. we are losing fans every week due to the pathetic, gutless shower of s**t we have to watch on the pitch every match!
Sorry but the buck stops with the manager, the time for change is now. Today!
I feel we will go down under the current manager. I really do.
the time for change is now! Other clubs around us have changed managers as it wasnt working out.
Marcus be ruthless!!

I personally can't stand Warnock, but he is unarguably a very good manager. In addition, I feel he's one of those people you love to hate unless he's in your tent spitting out!!
