Reading Keeper Loan Deal Reportedly Done
Reading Keeper Loan Deal Reportedly Done
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 19:24

Town are reported to have completed the signing of Reading keeper Alex McCarthy on loan until the end of the season. News of the Blues’ interest in the 22-year-old first broke last night.

Manager Paul Jewell has previously said that the Blues are keen on signing an additional glovesman to compete with Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright, former loanee David Stockdale having been recalled by Fulham last month.

Guildford-born 6ft 4in-tall England U21 cap McCarthy came through the Royals’ youth system and has had prior loan spells at Woking, Cambridge United, Team Bath, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Brentford in addition to a six-game spell at Leeds in November and December last year.

Elsewhere, Doncaster have confirmed they've accepted a bid from Leicester for one-time Town target Billy Sharp.

4th keeper of the season and can see if he starts alb will walk away.

Also agree regarding Warnock. A person everyone loves to hate but would sort this lot out.

If we lose at Birmingham wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

Would prefer div 1 than Warnock here the bloke is a .................!!!!!

Would not follow town with him in charge no matter how good a team we became

I'm afraid we missed our chance when RK was sacked. Chris Hughton should've been our new manager. Too late now though . . . sob

Thought Warnock should have come in after Keane (before even!) but he is another divisive character. Only thing is he has been genuinely successful at practically every club he has managed - a record probably second only to S A Ferguson of current managers. Keane was of course before he came here. All one of them!

Karlosfandangal a real supporters post!

How can anyone prefer div 1 to anything? Just because those up the road went down and came back in better shape is no guarantee of IT doing. Teams go down and never return, is that what you want

Would a true supporter say that with Warnock in charge they would not follow the team however good they became?

Oh no QPR have sack Warnock please no please no

Still say we should go in for Sharpe match the fee Leicester have agreed and give him a good contract.

Scotland Priskin and Ellington will be gone at the end of the season

So we have Chopra and Jet as our front line, if we were scoring goals and people like Sharpe and Maynard up front (or Chopra on form) it would take alot of pressure off our defence as teams would not push up so much

Does anyone remember what Warnock did at Crystal Palace? That's right bugger all. He is ok when he comes into a team with a decent squad like QPR. But palace had a poor bunch of players just like town. There must be someone else out there that can sort us out.

You lot make me laugh! PJ OUT? The problem is clearly on a higher level than the manager, three different manager, with similar failures. Paul Jewell is a good manager, one of the two or three managers to get two different teams promoted from this division. I also don't believe that he has any money to spend, hence the loan signings that you are all crying about. He also has to deal with the low crowds, and atmosphere less games because of ME's ridiculous ticket prices. CLEGG OUT, managers will continue to fail until the board is sorted. Bring on 2012.

Fell a bit sorry for ALB, his chance to come back into the 1st team was bad timing, no GK would well behind our defence. Best of luck Alex, hope you have a strong back!

I'm not sure about Mrs Doubtfire (Warnock). I think he's a good manager and would no doubt keep Ipswich up. However he's 63 so how long he wants to continue in management remains to be seen. If Evans is after a quick fix to stabilise the club then Warnock could be a decent appointment.

Personally I'd much rather we went after a promising young manager Karl Robinson at MK Dons, even if that means we drop down a division. I want the club to be built from the ground up with young, promising talent from the lower leagues and our youth system. Basically the opposite of what's happened under Keane and Jewell.

Hope he has a strong back, if not he will not be able to stand up after picking the ball out of the net with that lot in front of him.

Don't like Warnock but better than PJ in my opinion.I'd prefer Billy Davies myself when Jewell gets sacked.

This guy is so good he can't even get a look in at Reading (while a team with ambition go and sign Sharpe).

At least we now have another keeper to pick the ball out of the net after some more disastrous defending. Psychological, it must be managing on with ALB and Wright.

What's the point. Its not keepers howlers that have resulted in us being where we are. Its rubbish defending. Its a lack of pace, its not having a right back, its a lack of creativity, its a lack of youth.

I actually believed what Pj said about making mistakes. Now I think.that it was just a carefully worded PR exercise aimed at gullible fools like me.

RetroBlue, it appears Frase 1987's comment at the top has gone right over your head. Its called 'sarcasm', dear boy (or girl).

Warnock? Better than PJ, shame he wasn't available this time last year. But I'm not sure if sacking the boss right now is going to sort this mess out. A major clear-out in various areas IS required.

Neil Warnock has a proven track record and would be an excellent choice. He has also been very complimentary about Marcus Evans in the past which won't have gone unnoticed by the owner.

If we don't get him in as manager then some other club will get him in shortly.

Wonder if ALB will be starting on Wednesday against Brum?
He should be, But I bet Mcarthy will go straight to no 1.
Jewell Out
Billy Davies in or Neil Warnock.
