Stockdale Enjoyed Time at Town
Stockdale Enjoyed Time at Town

Departing loan keeper David Stockdale says he enjoyed his five months on loan at Portman Road. The 26-year-old was recalled by parent club Fulham yesterday.

Stockdale told the club site: “I loved my time at Ipswich and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great set of lads, great manager, great coaching staff and I can't speak highly enough of the place.

"The fans have been brilliant as well. They've been behind the team every game. It's been an up and down season so far but they've stuck by the players, which means a lot and I'd like to thank them.

"I really hope that sooner rather than later they can be watching their side playing in the Premier League because their support deserves it."

The former Darlington and York man says he could return to Portman Road once Mark Schwarzer is over his neck injury: "There may be a chance of me coming back. That's not really up to me and at the moment I just want to concentrate on getting back and doing my best for Fulham.

"If the chance came for me to come back and it suited all parties then it is definitely something I'd look into though.

"Fulham have got some big games coming up - especially Man United and Chelsea - so I want to do well and show people what I've learned at Ipswich and show what I've been doing in games and training, working along some great coaches such as Malcolm Webster.

"I just want to thank everyone at Ipswich for giving me this chance and I really have learned a lot from the experience.

"It would have been nice to have stayed and tried to have got the club into the Premier League, but I've got to concentrate on doing my best for Fulham now. I know the club are being left in good hands though as Wrighty and Arran are two great keepers."

A chance to give his back a rest after bending over so often to pick the ball out of the net !

To be fair if it wasn't for him I think we'd quite easily be bottom of the league right now.

So that's 3 articles about him leaving now, I suppose the next one will be about which train he caught yesterday, can we have some decent news stories please, probably glad to get out if truth be told.

A thoroughly impressive and professional attitude from David Stockdale, and thanks to him for that.

Let's sign a permanent goalkeeper in January though, as all the uncertainty and short termism over loans isn't good for stability. At least we have Richard Wright here, and hopefully he can do a good job over the coming matches.

So I guess what he was saying is: great set of lads=nice guys.
Great manager=frustrated by the dross we have often served up match days.
Great coaching staff: but we don't take any notice of the training when it comes to match days.
Notice he didn't say great defence!
Bet in a way he's relieved, it's quite embarrasing in a way to have had a quality young keeper from a Prem side picking the ball out of the net so many times. He must have really wondered what was going on at times!

Top keeper and seems a top bloke, all the best in the future and hope to see him as Joe Hart's back up in Poland/Ukraine next summer!

Well done Stocky, even though you were never "our" player, you showed real pride and thorough professionalism even through some difficult moments. Best wishes back at Fulham.

Those who criticise his efforts get a life. The fact he genuinely feels as though he appreciated his time at Ipswich despite all the problems give the bloke a break or go and support the scum.

Not a 'bad' keeper, but how many high crosses into his box ended up in the back of his net? Certainly not a Gordon Banks yet!!
