Stockdale Back at Fulham
Stockdale Back at Fulham

Loan keeper David Stockdale has returned to his parent club Fulham after their first-choice glovesman Mark Schwarzer was ruled out for up to six weeks due to a neck injury. The Cottagers inserted a 24-hour recall clause in the deal when Stockdale joined the Blues on a season-long loan in the summer.

Yesterday, Fulham boss Martin Jol appeared hopeful that the Australian veteran’s problem wasn’t too serious and that he would be fit enough to play in this evening’s Europa League game against Danish side Odense. However, after the 39-year-old saw a specialist, he was diagnosed with a compression injury to his thoracic spine, which will keep him out for four to six weeks, leading to the decision to bring Stockdale back from Town.

The 26-year-old could return to Portman Road in January on a half-season loan if and when Schwarzer is fit with Stockdale understood to have been happy with the Blues.

Richard Wright could come back into the Town side for Saturday’s home match against Derby with the ex-England man close to a recovery from his shoulder injury. If not, Arran Lee-Barrett will start with US U20 international keeper Cody Cropper on the bench.

Stockdale, who was spotted out celebrating Christmas with Town’s other keepers in Woodbridge last night, made 18 appearances for the Blues, conceding 35 goals.

Thats not good news, I don't think we can really rely on Wright or ALB between the sticks :(

this is probably one of the worst things that could happen right now! bad enough that collins is just about to go back to Stoke, without stockdale going back as well! hopefully Richard Wright or ALB will be good enough, or if not, luckily its like 2 weeks before we can get a new one in!

Tractorgirls, I'm sure the 24hr recall clause was put in by Fulham and would be the only terms on which they'd loan him out.

"made 18 appearances for the Blues, conceding 35 goals"

I know he's good but not great viewing...

Nunny, he can be hit and miss I'll grant you but he's probably better than what we have. For every one of the goals he's conceded, (I remember against The Posh he looked far from being good on the one on ones) he's probably kept scores down with some great saves too.

Now can we get in a permanent keeper in January. Can't see Stockdale returning. Will become Fulham number one.

Shame as he was a decent keeper

That being said if the team defend properly then it should be something we can cope with until Jan. Viktor Noring from Trelleborgs would be my, albeit unlikely choice for the future.

this was always likley. in which event personally i am pleased we have signed Wrighty on a short term deal. still got competition for our goalkeeping spot . without wrighty were looking very thin on the ground in that area.

Once again it shows up the disadvantages of all these loans. Let us hope that future policy moves towards signing ( or better still developing ) our own players
