Town Still to Make Move for Andrews
Town Still to Make Move for Andrews
Wednesday, 14th Dec 2011 08:37

Town are still to make an approach to Blackburn Rovers regarding an extension to midfielder Keith Andrews’s stay at Portman Road, despite increasing reports of Premier League interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

The 31-year-old, whose current loan spell is up on January 7th, has another 18 months on his contract at Ewood Park but is keen to move away from the Lancashire club either permanently or on another loan once his time with Town is at an end.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has said he is keen to keep Andrews at Town for the second half of the campaign but we understand Town are yet to formalise that interest.

Top flight sides Swansea and Wigan have both been strongly linked with Town’s current stand-in skipper, who has scored eight goals in 17 starts and one sub appearance since joining the Blues in August, while Championship Leeds, who targeted him in the summer, are reported to have renewed their interest.

However, without naming him specifically, Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have played down his club’s interest in Andrews, or at least the prospect of the Swans paying the fee which was reported earlier in the week: "I see the agents are doing their work at the moment and throwing out lots of names in the media. It's that funny time of year when all sorts of names come out.

"But I think people who know the way this club works know that we will not be spending £2 million on a 31-year-old, for example."

The one-time MK Dons man may ultimately move on a free transfer with Blackburn keen to remove his salary from their wage bill.

Meanwhile, one of this morning’s tabloids claims Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has rebuffed an attempt by Town to take ex-Blue Titus Bramble on loan for the remainder of the season in January.

Bramble was suspended by the Black Cats between September and November due to his ongoing legal issues but returned to the fold under Steve Bruce and then the first team under O’Neill.

Elsewhere, on-loan striker Ronan Murray says he’s itching to make his first start for loan club Swindon having so far made only three sub appearances for the Robins, who he is with for a month: “Injuries or anything could happen and you just hope you take your chance when you get in, and hopefully I’ll do that.

“It’s about trying to get in the first 11 and getting on the pitch, because I can’t really do anything on the bench.

“It’s hard in training when you’re doing little drills as it’s not a game, so I just want to get on the pitch really.”

And finally, ex-Town keeper Shane Supple says he’s still happy with his 2009 decision to quit soccer to return to Gaelic football: “I've no regrets, even if there could have been a possibility of going over [to Euro 2012] if I had stayed with it.”

i can only assume we are playing it cool for the exact reasons of not playing into agents hands and getting into bidding wars. As soon as we formalise interest and make a bid the rest are sure to arrive.....so quite possibly this is tactical genious (or we have someone in mind to replace OR we are just rubbish!)

Bramble - Oh god no. It'll be a case of lock up your daughters in Ipso and Southend. We'd be better off with Tommy Smith, who's equally crap on the pitch.

I think it is painfully obvious that ME will not lend Town any more money to buy players.
Loans and freebies on the cards for the rest of the season,me thinks.

Oh, I think I misread that "still" as meaning that in spite of Premiership interest we were "still" going to make a move....

Build around him

Does any one know what PJ is doing in this season of shame and shambles?

How come we are one of the well funded teams in the Championship, yet we haven't got two proper centre backs? Our best players are loans and are leaving. We can't give any of our squad away for cash. We can't sign anyone of promise and talent under 30 that isn't any good and wants to play for Ipswich.

In future years we look back and think why didn't we achieve anything while we had that amount of financial support. It's a shambles and a bl**dy disgrace.

PJ you are a chancer and the weakest link.

Very unfair Yorks Blue - have you seen Tommy Smith lately. Sadly the bloke has lost it, as has been proved both last and this season. I wish he would come good but am afraid his confidence is shot to bits. As for Titus it will be a def no no but he is Ipswich through and through, helps the academy and would be like coming home for him. As for being good enough - most certainly yes - prone to error in the Premiership but no worse than what we have been watching over the past few years at Portman Road. As I said it will not happen but we need to do something when Collins goes back.

Agree about Andrews, sign him up and make him full time captain. If Jimmy Bullard had've retained his form, I possibly may have been routing for him as captain. Andrews leads by example with his drive, as evident on Saturday.

Don worry Mr Rodgers, Mr Clegg would!

I dont understand how we could be bidding on a potentially (forgive spelling) free player unless we are gonna offer them Priskin.I got a feeling he's gonna stay dunno why I just do.

It's all media and agent hype. He's played well here at Ipswich and if his agent can get him a Premiership club they both stand to make more money. We also don't actually know what's gone on behind the scenes between us, Blackburn and Keith and his reps. Somethng could be near and his agents are just trying to drum up a bit of last minute interest, slimy those agent types only in it for themselves!

He will stay & be our captain

i agree with those that say he may well stay...... if he goes to Prem he has no guarantee of a starting place, make him captain here, if he carries on scoring his place in the Irish team is all but guaranteed next year. Bench warming in the Premiership and he may well loose out. For that reason alone joining town makes sense on all accounts!

Thank god we never got Bramble. He is a clown on the pitch and a menace to women.

I have no confidence whatsoever with this Club in the hands of the people it is in.
Why am I not surprised with the news 'that we are still to make move for Andrews' ? - what I fear is happening, or more likely has already happened, is AGAIN we drag our feet whilst others do a deal.

What about the 18 contracts that are out at the end of the season ? - looks very much like a repeat of last season all over again. Why ? - surely even the biggest idiot should have learned from the previous debacle.

How can any sane minded person have any confidence when this Club is ran in such an non professional way - wherever you look it's around us in terms of no direction.
Followers are criticised for being 'negative' - where is there ANY 'positiveness' from the so called 'big 3'.

The policy now seems to be 'wait until tomorrow and see what happens' Great !!

Town are a struggling Championship club - FACT. Much closer to the bottom than the top. PJ delivered the worst run of results since 1994/5 - when we were in the PL. I can see why some are just looking at the last result - we were excellent second half. But this does not excuse the results before then. Andrews will have many offers - and as Clegg only managed to negotiate TWO fees all Summer (Chopra and JET - who no one else wanted) there is a little chance of us being successful.
