Bruce Claimed to Be a Town Target
Bruce Claimed to Be a Town Target
Sunday, 4th Dec 2011 10:00

Town view recently sacked Sunderland manager Steve Bruce as a possible replacement for Paul Jewell, according to claims in one of this morning’s tabloids. Bruce, the father of ex-Blue Alex, left the Black Cats after two and a half years this week.

With Town’s run of defeats stretching to seven against Watford on Saturday, names of potential new bosses are starting to surface with Twitter claims of Peterborough’s Darren Ferguson being lined up and former Cardiff boss Dave Jones also rumoured to be a possible successor to Jewell.

Despite the run of losses, owner Marcus Evans gave his backing to the current incumbent on Wednesday, while Jewell ruled out resigning, and a change appears unlikely to be immediately in the offing.

Why dont you all just support your team with the man in charge ! All of you who keep wishing to change the manager do not realise that it makes us a less attractive place to come ( for players and coaches ) as they know one loss and the knives come out !!! Get real and just accept the fact that PJ has been left a bigger rebuild job than thought and that he has to have time to repair the damage !!! I feel sad and disappointed with how things are but am prepared to have some patience and see what January brings in the way of newplayers .

No thanks to Bruce - hasn't really done anything with Sunderland apart from spending alot of money and kept them just above relegation (ring any bells) and didn't do anything at Birmingham either, this style of football is also bland.

Why are all good young players/managers "hungry"? Don't they eat like the rest of us?

The first question Bruce or similar managers would want to know is "what is the transfer budget?" Ignoring wages and signing on fees etc., and just looking at transfer fees, Jewell has made a £5M PROFIT. Is it realistic to expect any manager to get us promoted without investing in transfer fees?

I hope Paul Jewell can hang in there, and will be backed in the transfer market in January to bring in some younger players.

It's all very well listing name after name, but are any of them realistic?

Terry Butcher has a job, in Scotland, where he has numerous other business interests. Why would he want to move here?

Sean O'Driscoll if he did such a great job at Doncaster, why did they fire him?

If Alan Curbishley is so good, why has no-one actually offered him a job?

Why would you employ someone on a two and a half year contract, allow him to say at the very start of his job that "this(turning the team around) is a two and a half year job" and then sack him eleven months later?

Lee Clark would never quit what he has started at Hudersfield. He would be an exciting choice.
Steve Bruce although he has a proven track record likes to play long ball so not for me.
David Jones is a terrific manager who has succeeded with a low budget and would be a great choice. Tinsdale from Exeter also a great up and coming prospect.
Anyone for Steve Coppell ??

Regardless of our position at the moment, I really don't believe we are heading towards league one, we have more than got the players to stay in this league, even if they are a bit of a Dads Army.

As for some the the ludicrous comments that we would be better off in league one and rebuild - never heard such daft ideas. Why would we want to do that?? We can rebuild whilst staying in the Championship. Norwich were the exception, - don't forget Southampton didn't bounce straight back up!!

I think PJ needs at least until Jan to see if he can turn it around, before any talk of changing the manager!

Strange things happen but we may go to Barnsley, win and start a new run..

to get real - I dont know if there is a get out clause but if you you were no good at your job (and i am sure you are all brilliant) would you just walk out without a job to go to? a question of everyones morals? of doing the honourable thing? if i was Jewell i would be wanting to continue to provide for my family. spouting on here for him to quit and real life in these times maybe two different things.

If jewell' s given until january we are gonna be playing 1st division football next season if we get a positive result against Barnsley then who knows but what if he's given till january and we don't get a result it's time for the keep jewell brigade to have a real think about what they are saying, yes I'd like to live in a world where it all turns around and we get to the play off's and an arab billionaire buys the club and we sign Messi and Iniesta, But I along with a few others live in the real world and know that life is not sugar coated and wrapped up in cotton wool.If I perform at work the way Jewell has I will be fired and I'm not paid £0000's of pounds a week.

Please god no! I have nothing against the man and think he is a good manager, but we have already done the ex sunderland crap. please not again. Give jewell time to sort this, he can and will.

How about give the Jewell out chants a break you muppets, coz its not gonna happen, no ones gonna come in and do a better job without spending a sh#t load more of cash and months worth of waiting to find a right team, and realistically who's gonna want to play here?Town will turn the corner with the players they've got and yes i'm a season ticket holder and watched 6 of the last 7 defeats. If we don't beat Barnsley I'll buy u all a drink!!

PJ Probably has two more games then it will no doubt be curtains if we don't pick up any points. Playing Derby at home could be at written script if we don't beat Barnsley. Apart from yesterday it's the manner of losing which is way below championship standard which hurts the most.
I do hope PJ can turn it round, but on the evidence of SEVEN STRAIGHT PI$$ POOR DEFEATS it will take some doing.

As long as Paul Jewell is our manager he and the team will get my full backing. There is no denying that we are on a very poor run and for that reason they need our support even more - clubs that keep swapping and changing managers get nowhere.......COYB

Stick with jewell, i was at yesterdays game and although i cant understand why he put ellington ahead of carson, there were plenty of positives, for me that was bowyers best performance in a town shirt, the team did show the desire and passion thats been lacking in recent weeks, sonkos back and we have the january sales to look forward to. Lets face it he is the manager of itfc, the team most of those who post on here support. Lets just support the team, all this negative crap on here is not helping in anyway, so while he is the manager lets support him and our team. ..... COYB

IF PJ gets the bullet I would really like to see Lee Clark as an up and coming manager - but doubt he would want it!! - If not then Burley and someone like Jason De Vos and/or Fabien Vilnes alongside him - BUT I really hope that we turn it around and give PJ a little longer - I could see some improvement on Saturday, and 1 win could easily turn into a run COYB !!
