Jewell Linked With Hulse Reunion
Jewell Linked With Hulse Reunion
Tuesday, 22nd Nov 2011 22:49

Town manager Paul Jewell could be one of a number of Championship bosses tempted by the loan availability of QPR striker Rob Hulse, according to reports in London. The Premier League club are said to have circulated the 32-year-old’s name along with those of several other fringe players ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline.

Hulse is understood to have turned down a switch to Doncaster as he wants to remain in the south, while Blackpool were also claimed to be amongst those interested last week.

Jewell signed Hulse for £1.75 million from Sheffield United when Derby boss in July 2008 and the 6ft 1½in tall frontman was understood to have been in the Town manager’s thoughts when he was looking to add to his attacking options in the summer.

The likely exit of Tamás Priskin, coincidentally to Derby, could see Jewell seek to augment his striking ranks before Thursday's deadline, although the link with Hulse could just be down to the pair's previous association at Pride Park.

Hulse, who started his career with hometown club Crewe and has also played for Hyde United (loan), West Brom and Leeds, joined QPR ahead of 2010/11 for a £1 million fee but managed only 13 starts and nine sub appearances in their promotion season, scoring two goals.

In the summer, Hulse, whose Loftus Road contract runs to June 2013, decided against a move to Millwall as he was hoping for some involvement in QPR’s first season back in the Premier League, however, he is still to feature for Neil Warnock’s side.

Also on the circulated list are centre-half Danny Shittu, Brazilian defender or midfielder Bruno Perone and Norwegian winger Petter Vaagan Moen.

Played in the prem? Check. In your 30s? Check. After one last payday before you put your feet up? Check.

Will you ever learn Jewell?

Unbelievable Jeff!

Well done Ronan Murray, you showed hunger and grabbed 2 goals - your reward? You're being replaced by a 'proven name' (who doesn't give a crap).

Work with what you've got Jewell! Stop wasting funds on cack!

Would be a massive waste of money. Not a better player than what we have available. Why oh why cant jewell look to the future and build a young attacking team. Oh and we dont need anymore loans they are not the way forward! My team for saturday would be ;)

Stockdale
Edwards wabara collins cresswell
JET hyam andrews (c) carson
Chopra ellington

Subs
Lee-barret
Ingy
Martin
Bullard
Murray

My team posted on a previous thread probally was a over enthustic way of getting a point across. But on a serious note this is what i would play. Freshen things up a little. Im sure wabara would do a good job at centre back and would complement collins and offer extra pace. Ellington up front hasnt really been given much of a chance with murray on the bench to bring pace up top if needed. JET and carson constantly swappimg wings and getting at the full backs seem a real threat and chopra will score goals given chances. With edwards and collins at full back they give us extra attacking options. Our centre midfield needs serious freshining up and i feel hyam could be that revalation, young and fitter and a local lad with real passion for the club. Played well when in under keane and hasnt featured under jewell and i dont know why. Oh and i think we could do worse than signing richard wright as i feel he is a decent backup who is more than capable if stepping up if and when stockdale gets recalled. I think if collins and andrews dont sign in january we could be in severe trouble. Im worried we could go down this year!

Jewell had been hoping to mount a promotion challenge in 2000—01 with Wednesday but after enduring a torrid eight months in charge was sacked in February 2001 with the debt-ridden Hillsborough club struggling near the foot of Division One.

Jeez.. Is this as good as it gets..Why bother with an academy or reserve team,
Murray,Hyam and the rest of the youngsters must wonder what they've got to do to progress to our first team..
Is this the new ITFC recruitment policy under Jewell, over 30, ex Prem and needing to top up your pension head to Portman Road. All welcome..!!!
Clueless..
And they want my hard earned dosh to watch a bunch of slow, overpaid has beens playing out their days...Clegg, Jewell get a life..
I'll support ITFC forever and will be eternally grateful top ME for saving our beloved club, but why lose game with over 30's when you've got a ready made answer in the reserves. we may as well lose with some young and hungry players than with this bunch who are just seeing out their days.

A - striking options aren't our primary concern
B - Priskin for Hulse is a poor swap
C - Hulse is poor full stop
D - I've had enough....
