Sonko to Miss Forest Trip
Sonko to Miss Forest Trip
Tuesday, 15th Nov 2011 13:03

Central defender Ibrahima Sonko is set to miss Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest due to the hamstring injury which kept him out of the home defeat to Doncaster. Better news is that Lee Bowyer, Nathan Ellington and Daryl Murphy are all closing in on a return to action.

In addition to Sonko, Damien Delaney is sidelined for around six weeks having undergone surgery on a stress fracture to his foot, so manager Paul Jewell says the Blues are likely to start with Ívar Ingimarsson and Danny Collins at the heart of their defence at the City Ground: "As we stand at the minute, Ívar and Danny will be our defensive partners for Saturday, as Damo and Sonks are still injured.

"Lee and Nathan are both back training, while Daryl was with the physio yesterday and will be with the fitness coach today, so he won't be too far away. If they are fit for Saturday then they could be in contention."

Bowyer had been suffering with back and hamstring problems and Ellington with a calf injury, while Murphy pulled a hamstring in the reserves defeat to Arsenal.

Ellington's been suffering with a hoof problem, more like.

Ingimarsson vs Miller - its a mismatch! We are a worryingly short team without Sonko.

Ipswich24 - you'd seriously put Smith anywhere near our defence? He is the perfect example of being bullied in almost every game! Collins should be big enough to deal with Miller??

Big test for us on Saturday.
We need a win to stop the rot or if we are not careful we will drop further down the table. PJ and CO Have had two weeks to get things sorted so no excuses anymore.

Going to Forest without the big man at the back makes me think we've lost this already..sorry but that's how I feel. I'll be there Saturday but I can picture our performance now...

However good Sonko has been we all knew he was injury-prone. We need consistency at the back - not rely on a player who will play 50% of the season at best. Shame, because Sonko when he plays has done well - but people have to realise that we can't rely on him. With Collins leaving soon - and a busy period of games coming up - no doubt PJ has a plan B in place? Surely?

At this rate sonko will be fit for less than 30% of our games. Surely we should be looking at building this team without him.

Ingy was really good against Bristol, he should be able to up his game. For those moaning about Sonko's injuries, try telling that to spurs and Ledley King, different class but same principle, if he does a decent job, makes a difference and doesn't drain your wages, keep him. I'm sure he's got a lot to offer the youngsters on the training pitch etc too.

Sonko is definitely an effective player who will be missed when out of the team - problem is that these older players will all miss games - and really not be too bothered, if at all, in doing so.
When you get to that stage of your career the important thing is you have a signed contract - and you get paid. Seen it all many times before.

When signing these players PJ should have known this - but of course a 'Plan B' is something he would never have heard of - as is so blatantly obvious.

It appears that the Club has no overall master plan reference the present or future - and rolls on from match to match, season to season.
Not like ITFC of old - that's for sure.

h32 - although you might be right on observance of a player like Campo, I think if you're talking about the recent form of Scotland, Andrews, Sonko and then players in the past such as legwinski and de vos, I think it's a little harsh to assume that ALL our players (especially Sonko) only want to be paid and genuinely don't care about the club at all

^ that's really not helpful either, that attitude from the fans isn't going to make us any more likely to win.

A player pulls a hamstring and suddenly he's going to play half the season at best?

walberswick added 08:51 - Nov 16
I really wish we could sort out the centre back problem. Currently we are no further forward in sorting it out.

2 injury prone 30+ journeymen and a pretty good loanee do not make a defence capable of promotion. Delaney isn't a option, he's hasn't got a football brain. He's clueless.

I'd hope PJ is looking to strengthen our achilles heel before he starts spending on stars of the future.

every town player should have their tonsils and their hamstrings removed before they sign up. the failure to implement these minor medical procedures is costing us far too many points.
