Andrews Unsure About Future
Andrews Unsure About Future

Blues midfielder Keith Andrews says he’s not sure what will happen when his half-season loan from Blackburn ends in January. The 31-year-old, who is in action for the Republic of Ireland in the second leg of their Euro 2012 play-off against Estonia this evening, doesn’t want to return to Ewood Park, where he still has 18 months remaining on his contract.

Andrews told the Irish media: "The loan is up in early January and I don't honestly know what'll happen then. There's been bits and pieces in the press in England that Ipswich want to sign me on a permanent deal, so we'll see what happens.

"I don't think Blackburn want me back and I don't want to go back there, so I'm sure something will get done. We'll wait and see."

The Dubliner, who has been confirmed in Ireland’s starting line-up for tonight’s game, is one of a number of Blues players in international action.

Meanwhile, Andrews's recruitment is one of the main reasons that, according to stats experts Opta, 38% of Town's goals have come from shots from outside the penalty box this season, a higher proportion than anyone else in the Championship.

Andrews has netted five goals - several of them from well outside the area - in 13 starts and one sub appearance.

Sounds like a subtle backtrack to me. His performance for EIRE might have raised the eyebrows of other clubs.

Sign him up and make him skipper imo

For once I agree 100% with Pazelle :)

If I were feeling unfair, I would point out that Andrews has scored as many league goals for Town this season as Priskin has in his Town career...

PLEASE SIGN HIM!!

Blackburn need to hold on to Kean until january so that the new manager doesn't realise that he's got such a quality player out on loan and calls him back...

5 goals in 13(1) is a brilliant return and on that basis alone I'd like us to sign him up. I am concerned about how many attacking central midfielders we have though, as we could do with a younger defensive midfielder and wingers. If Andrews is very expensive, it may be that the money is needed in other areas of the pitch.

Sounds like he's keeping himself in the shop window. There's a place waiting for him in the Ireland Team at the Euros next Summer. He might be thinking that his chance of playing in the tournament might be greater playing for a better Team than us right now. While he keeps making media comments like these the less chance we have of keeping him unfortunately. The key thing is that nobody, not even us, can sign him before the transfer window in January. A good run of results and performances would be very useful in keeping him on-side with us.

IMO, Andrews has been the most consistent and motivated player for Town this year. He's had some off days, but when you look at his work off the ball as well as on it, and his positioning when Town don't have posession, he's head and shoulders above the rest for drive and will to win. I'm certain PJ would make him captain if he signs permanently, but would the critics on this forum complain if we sisnged up another (no doubt) well-paid 30-something? I think they would,k and especially so if his form dips!

"There's been bits and pieces in the press in England that Ipswich want to sign me on a permanent deal, so we'll see what happens."

Has he got that from reading the papers? Has no-one from the club sat down and talked to him and told him of their wishes?

It does seem like he is putting himself in the shop window. So make him an offer quick.

He is doing well here, and for Ireland, Unfortuantly that makes a permanent move less likely, I think he is advertising himself.

Although I agree we should sign Andrews - I just wonder how much money he is on? We can not continue with this one paced midfield with no width, creativity or pace. If Andrews stays, 2 from Bullard, Leadbitter and Bowyer will need to be dropped - as we are crying out for two wide or at least wider players!

I also agree - in my opinion we need to move heaven and earth to sign Andrews on a permanent deal .... but with his recent international "success" and media coverage I am wonder if he is not hoping for something/somewhere "better".

I so hope I am wrong, but our prospects will not be seen as that great at the moment and I think that could ultimately count against us.
