Collins Fine for Cardiff and Wants to Stay
Collins Fine for Cardiff and Wants to Stay
Wednesday, 12th Oct 2011 15:18

Loan defender Danny Collins says he expects to be fine for Town’s trip to Cardiff on Saturday, despite being withdrawn from the Wales squad for their final two Euro 2012 qualifiers due to a groin injury. Collins, who is with the Blues from Stoke until after the Barnsley game in December, is enjoying his time at Portman Road and would like to stay for longer.

Collins, speaking in a BBC Radio Suffolk interview, says the injury is not a serious concern: “It’s not too bad. Since the end of last season I’ve had a bit of aggravation in my groin. It’s tended to be OK since I’ve been here and playing games has got me through and it’s when I rest it I aggravate it.

“But I’ve kept ticking over since I’ve been here and I’ve had to have a break. I’ve played five games in a short space of time since I came here after not really playing at the start of the season. I just felt that it was a chance for me to get it right and get it rested for the Cardiff game.”

The 31-year-old says his spell is going well and he’d like to return to the Blues when the transfer window opens in January: "I'm enjoying it, overall I've been pleased with my performances. Hopefully we can get something sorted out to stay here longer. We'll have to see what happens.

"I've got other things aside of football going on at the minute with a baby on the way," he added. "But perhaps we could extend my loan until the end of the season and then see how things go from there."

Collins has been impressed with the squad assembled by manager Paul Jewell: "We don't fear anyone in the league. Look at the squad, there's a lot of Premier League experience, a lot of quality.

"We've changed our formation these last few games and teams are struggling to cope with us. The lads in front of us have started to click and it's a joy to watch at times. We look like adding goals to our good performances, which is nice."

Coach Sean McCarthy similarly feels belief is growing amongst the squad: "There's a confidence, a feelgood factor at the club that comes from winning.

"The players that we've brought in are starting to gel now. Everything feels good around the place at the moment, the players are enjoying themselves."

Meanwhile, the Blues' reserves, who are run by McCarthy, will face Arsenal in a friendly at Playford Road on Tuesday 1st November.

Would love to sign him permanently - isn't he out of contract with Stoke in the summer ? If so hopefully get him for a good price in Jan.
Has been excellent since he came

He has been very impressive since arriving and a big factor in our recent form. He seems to enjoy life here too so we'd be daft not to try and sing him - especially as he'll get better as his match fitness improves

a quality replacement for big mac, only better! (i know he is left footed but to me he replaces big Mac and Sonko cannot be seen as replacing anyone, he is a legend in the making that does not replicate any player i have seen in a town shirt for a very long time!)

Sonko and Collins is ten times a better partnership than McAuley and Delaney ever was.

This lad displayed one of the best performances I've seen at PR during the Brighton game, for a long long time. Very reminiscent of Terry Butcher. He won every aerial ball and was solid on the floor. His permanent place in the team has to be one of PJ's top priorities in January, along with trying to keep Andrews also.

solid performer, hope we can hang on to him ,its a bummer that so many players that have turned things around for us are on loan .But i suppose if we can maintain the run and stay in touch at top we have better chance of signing players in January than if we are facing the drop . COYB .

not quite Terry Butcher, dont think anyone will ever replace him but maybe a Russell Osman? Def compares to De Vos and without a doubt better than big Mac, no excuses not hidding just a passionate player who when he puts on the shirt gives 100%

Sonko and Collins are different class to Del and Mac last season

we dont look like conceding with these two at the back . weve let in 1 goal in last 4 games and that was a class goal from Vincete which stockdale didnt have a chance against !

Big Big game against Cardiff though get a result against them and we then have 2 games at home against teams we should beat next 3 games we could see ourselfs in top 3/4 !

Collins and Sonko have been the catalyst for allowing PJ to play the diamond formation using 4 centre midfielders and allowing our full backs to bomb forward. With two hardworking frontrunners now getting decent service the team and supporters alike are at long last enjoying entertaining times. Please sign him up at the first opportunity. P.S. Stockdale has also been a masterstroke signing.

'Not quite T.B.' - you mean "not in the same league".

And remember R.O. played for England, I'm afraid Collins would not have reached that level had he been availavle for God's own country.

He's a decent player, but please don't have in the Hall of Fame just yet!

Whatever it takes to sign him. Our best pair of Sonko and Collins since Butcher and Osman, and would grace any Premiership team.
