Hessenthaler Apologises for Murray Mix-Up
Hessenthaler Apologises for Murray Mix-Up

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says he has apologised to Town striker Ronan Murray after his proposed loan switch to the Gills broke down last week due to what he calls a "mix-up". The Republic of Ireland U21 international was at the Priestfield Stadium last Thursday fully expecting to join the Gills on a short-term spell.

Hessenthaler said: "It was a bit of a mix-up. It’s disappointing how it was handled and I’ve apologised to the lad.

"We played them last week and we thought that the lad was going to come in on Monday but he came on Thursday. He is a good player and will do well at Ipswich, he looked a livewire."

Murray scored twice after coming on as a late sub in last week's 8-1 victory over the Kent side's reserves at Playford Road.

The Gills boss signed West Ham frontman Frank Nouble last Thursday and says he has no further plans to add to his striking options: "We’re happy with the squad. It’s just picking the right team in the games."

Released Blues midfielder Billy Clark recently spent time on trial with the League Two side but without winning a contract. More recently the Ipswich-based player has spent a similar spell at Luton.

To be fair, Hessenthaler isn't the sharpest tool in the box

Ronan Murray is a talent - should be on the bench ahead of Ellington

Murray looks far too small and nowhere near Championship quality. He's behind Chopra, Scotland, Murphy, Emmanuel-Thomas and Priskin so I don't see him getting any chances at Ipswich this season.

Mark - He is worth a place on the bench - he has the talent and sometimes it is better to have a young kid with pace - unknown to the opposition than an old war horse like Ellington -

I also cant see teams beating our door down to take Priskin

Mark the only way he's behind priskin is if they are in the same queue waiting for a taxi

I'm sure if we made the same error a fine would be in order... Get your act together Mr Hassenthaler.. apology or no apology

"Ronan Murray is a talent - should be on the bench ahead of Ellington"

I think you mean he should NEARLY be on the bench, ahead of Ellington.
