Jewell: Exits Likely
Jewell: Exits Likely
Friday, 26th Aug 2011 10:31

Blues boss Paul Jewell says that with so many new players coming into the club, exits are inevitable. Town are particularly overloaded with strikers with Tamás Priskin and Jason Scotland appearing amongst the favourites to move on.

Jewell said: “With us bring so many players in, there will be players that are available, if it suits us and it suits the players. But my phone hasn’t rung.

“It’s always the way that you can be overloaded in certain areas. In terms of strikers, we’ve got Tamás, we’ve got Duke, we’ve got Chops, now we’ve got Daryl Murphy, we’ve got Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who can play up there, and Jason Scotland.

“We probably have got too many strikers, although I think Joe Royle once said you can’t have too many strikers.

“There might well be players leaving, on loan or permanently, I honestly don’t know. But the only players who aren’t under consideration at the moment are Lee Martin and Tommy Smith because they’re suspended.”

Priskin appears unlikely to move on in the short-term having suffered a recurrence of the injury which curtailed his 2010/11: “Tamás hurt his knee in training on Friday. He had that knee injury when he was on loan at Swansea and missed a couple of games in the summer with Hungary. He’s training with the kids trying to get his fitness back. He’s here but he’s not 100% fit yet.”

Jaime Peters and Shane O’Connor have also been in training with the youngsters, a further indication that the duo aren’t in Jewell’s plans. Lee Martin has joined them in recent days but as a result of the Blues’ boss’s annoyance at his disciplinary issues following his red card at Peterborough.

Jewell says there have been no further developments regarding Portsmouth target Grant Leadbitter, who he confirmed will continue to skipper the side: “I’ve heard the rumours about Grant Leadbitter but the last chat I had with the owner about Grant was that we were hoping to extend his contract.

“There’s been a lot of mumbling about Grant. I don’t want it to go on and on, that’s the only thing I’ve said to Grant and he’s of the same ilk.

“But there have to be people willing to buy him or buy anybody before we let anybody go. I’m not here thinking that I’ve got to let players go out. However, I think that if I were a player on the fringes here, as great a club as this is, I’d still want to be playing football somewhere.”

"I think that if I were a player on the fringes here, as great a club as this is, I'd still want to be playing football somewhere.” That's as near as you get to being told to flip off!

My phone hasn't rung. Well that's a surprise that nobody wants our rubbish.

Ellington is a good player, he hasn't really got up to steam yet but I would much rather have him coming up off the bench than that buffoon Scotland. I find Priskin to be the most annoying player since Counago; bags of talent- when he feels like it. I would be inclined to keep him as alongside Chopra, Murphy, Ellington and JET we have good striking options, as well as wide cover from JET and Murphy. It might be true that defending starts from the front, but confidence starts from the back, and getting in a right-back who is actually a right-back and a good left-sided centre-half to give Delaney a kick up the arse will complete this team before the window shuts. If Leadbitter, Smith or Scotland never pulled on a Town shirt again I would be happy. Peters and O'Connor clearly won't play under Jewell, so it is time for them to leave too.

Speaks volumes...
"With us bring so many players in, there will be players that are available, if it suits us and it suits the players. BUT MY PHONE HASN'T RUNG"

Still think Tamas could do something but HE needs to knuckle down and produce the goods!!!

Leadbitter... keeps the captains armband... PJ give me strength... seriously?!? I have yet to question PJ's judgement/ calls and have supported him from the start but please!!! Leadbitter doesn't say a word! Give it to Jimmy or Bowyer - someone who is vocal! Remember the days when Magilton or Holland had the armband - they talked to the team! A captain is meant to lead and be the managers voice on the pitch... Grant... you say nothing?! Nice guy... unfortunate to get some grief from the fans but some people don't work as captain - see G Mac last year. Was a much better player without the armband!

Priskin has more potential than Scotland. He is 24, a current European International Striker and first choice for his country. Just wish he would do it for us rather than show us glimpses.
Scotland can go. All the best!

It really is strange how PJ has never given Shane a look in the first team, aside from a few minutes at Emirates.

As for Jaime, why not trying him in his real position for once? With Martin out for three games I'd be quite happy to see him given a go at right midfield, particularly as, since Danny Haynes, he is almost the only person at the club with any pace. Also, although he unfortunately had a stinker at right back against Northampton I still don't think there's much difference between him and Carlos Edwards. Jaime has been a loyal servant to the club (and ripped apart Norwich as a left back not that long ago!) and I don't think it's right that he has now been told to go and train with the kids.

well out of all the players to go from this club from those names banded about leadbitter would be at the top, he gives nothing to the team at all atleast the others either contibute somthing or atleast score a few goals, and for some bizaar reason he has never been dropped under either manager, if we want this team to push forward i feel he is one of the weeklinks, as well as at the back, and i personaly think the 2.6 m or what ever it was was a worse decsion that priskin or scotland in my opion, as both of them have failed mainly due to lack of service from the midfield,

Mr Jewell certainly is very pro-active;but up to last game results getting worse, and its on the pitch that counts not the number of players you sign;so am certainly not getting carried away like some on here.Having supported town for 50 years never known so much transfer activity, and more of a 'Dads Army' than at any time since the end of Ramsey era;but several of those players had come through the leagues with Town.
Agree with several posters about Scotland, but he may be reluctant to go as the pies are premier league! Also not impressed with Ellington as both of them couldn't even play well against Northampton.
Tamas Priskin, current Hungarian International, only 24 and as skilful as any forward we have.Perhaps he needs an' arm round the shoulder',a bit of praise and a run in the first team instead of being frozen out along with O'Connor,Peters and Luke Hyam.

Haha yet there both better than ellington ... The only exit we need is leadbitter I used to like him but I feel we don't need him anymore were better class than him now

Sorry Paul but you need someone other than Grant Leadbitter as Captain, it simply is not working, Jimmy is the obvious choice in my opinion.

The two players that I think PJ should have another look at are O'Connor and Hyam.

I know you could say that O'Connor only looked good against Leicester in the snow, but he didn't have many other opportunities to show what he could do.

Also, Hyam had a solid run as the holding mid-fielder when RK (captain chaos) was at the helm.

Peters is very much like Lee Martin. Both run very fast but have little idea where they're going!! I knew Lee Martin reminded me of someone . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Forest Gump.

Peters, Leadbitter, Lee-Barrett, Scotland, Priskin, Smith, O'Connor, Healy, Ainsley and Kennedy can all go as far as I'm concerned simply just not good enough.

Priskin is another of the same ilk as Amir Karic. Might be good but doesn't do it in the shirt we love.

He's got Edwards doing a very poor impression of a right back, yet refuses to try Jaime Peters.

Chris not true he played him at northampton and he made Edwards look world class

Agreed bluelady. Peters had a real opportunity to get in the reckoning in the Northampton game, but he blew it badly, with an awful game.

I am a supporter of Jamie, but he didn't do himself any favours against Northampton. After that performance I can't see him playing for Town again.
