Free Coach Travel to Blackpool as Town Say Sorry
Free Coach Travel to Blackpool as Town Say Sorry
Thursday, 25th Aug 2011 07:25

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has revealed that the club will cover fans’ travel costs to the Blues’ next away game at Blackpool as an apology for Saturday’s 7-1 thrashing at Peterborough United. The 546-mile round trip to Bloomfield Road on Saturday 10th September is the longest of the campaign.

Clegg said: “I have decided that the club should carry the costs of the supporters’ coaches for the Blackpool game — however many that will be — as a show of our gratitude to our fans after enduring last weekend’s defeat at Peterborough.

“It says something about the support this club is fortunate to enjoy that a vast majority of the 1,300 fans who made the trip to London Road were still there at the final whistle having endured a humiliating last 60 minutes of the game.

“Speaking to the players and the manager, I know they were personally embarrassed and dejected, but they also felt bitterly disappointed as to how badly they had let our loyal fans down.

“Watching your team lose as well as win is all part of being a football fan and it’s not a decision we have taken lightly, but we feel this one-off gesture is the right one and I know Paul and the players are right behind it as well.”

Manager Paul Jewell added: “We’re all hurting this week, but the people I feel most for are the supporters.

“Every other weekend they make long journeys and pay a lot of money to support us on our travels and we are letting them down. We need to improve; not just for our sake, but most importantly theirs.”

Supporters wanting to take advantage of free coach travel to Blackpool need purchase their match tickets from the club’s Ticket Office prior to midday on Tuesday 6th September.

Most clubs would not have bothered to do anything, it's a gesture, so grow up some of you and stop whinging it shows the club recognizes that last week was unacceptable. What matters to me is that the team goes out and puts heart and soul into the game against Leeds on Saturday, am not expecting too much as it will take time for the team to gel. But I expect to see passion and commitment from those who pull on a Town shirt.

I think it's a decent enough gesture but it's no good to me where I live & we also like to stop the night whenever we go to Blackpool.

If I was SC I'd be inclined to say "well shove it up your ar5e then!"

He didn't have to offer up anything. Anybody who cannot accept this is part and parcel of being a town fan is either dilluded or new here. Get used to it!

If we asked for compensation for every dismal display backadated over the last 20 years, the club would go tits up!

Good gesture. The away support has always been great and good to see that rewarded. As for those asking for a full refund. Get real!! I heard that one so called supporter returned his season ticket which had been cut into small pieces demaning a full refund. What is wrong with these people? You wouldn't pay to see a show at the West End and then head straight to the box office for a refund because you didnt enjoy it! and as someone posted earlier, the club dont charge extra when we score 6! Grow up and accept the gesture the club have made.

Well done ITFC.

Those of you who are moaning about you make your own way, don't, catch the bus or shut up.

Fair play to them tbh...

I'd love to believe that this has been funded through, what would amount to a miniscule % cut in the playing/management staff's wages, but i doubt this is the case. Anyway, it's the thought that counts, right?

Onwards and upwards.

What a thoughtful and generous gesture from the club. I was going to drive up there, but now getting the coach and hopefully we'll take bags of fans to cheer the boys on. Well done Clegg.

Can't believe some people are whinging about this. Obviously it's not everyone that can benefit and to be spiteful and childish is quite pathetic really. Presume you'll be hoping we lose just to spite those that do make it. Unbelievable!

I don't know about compensated. Anybody considering going on one of the club coaches to Blackpool (even if it is free of charge) should be sectioned.

Its not compensation, its a gesture by the club. Well done Cleggy for making a good gesture. Its a nightmare journey to Blackpool and I won't be going but its great that those that do get there and back for free.

It is at least a gesture, but could have been so much more. How about a free match ticket for Blackpool for everybody that went to Peterborough?

p.s. I don't remember any sort of gesture after the 9-0 defeat at Old Trafford!

Why discriminate against those who don't use the coaches? We all paid for our tickets to the match and witnessed the fiasco.
Any gesture should benefit everyone who went to Peterborough, not just a select few.
Another Clegg cock up !

Fair play ITFC. May take advantage off this offer. What a difference a few days make in football! I think we are getting serious contenders again. Blue army!

No pleasing some fans. I,ve travelled all over England watching us for 30 years, seen some shocking displays, but the good ones make up for it, it,s part & parcel of being a supporter. Make use of this goodwill gesture, ITFC didn,t have to do this, well done ME/CLEGG. I,m sure going, will be a good if rather long day out.

The football club have an old school Ipswich decision.

Good to see.

Why is everybody moaning? Its a generous offer by the club. They didnt HAVE to do it and it is meant as acknowledgement of the fans disappointment at Boro game.
I have paid for 2 season tickets and I know that I have to accept what ever performance the players put on for the home games. I dont expect to be reimbursed if I dont like what I see (which unfortunately, has frequently been the case in recent times).

Well done ITFC
