Ferdinand Turns Down Town
Ferdinand Turns Down Town
Friday, 12th Aug 2011 08:22

Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand is reported to have turned down the chance to join the Blues. Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is understood to have been willing to allow the former West Ham man to move on but the player is keen to fight for his place at the Stadium of Light.

Ferdinand would appear to have dropped down the pecking order on Wearside after the summer signings of John O’Shea and Wes Brown.

Yesterday, Town boss Paul Jewell revealed that he had approached out-of-contract duo Matthew Upson and Jonathan Woodgate earlier in the summer as he looks to add to his central defensive ranks.

Last night, former Stoke and Reading man Ibrahima Sonko tweeted that he could be in line to join the Blues.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be one of a number of clubs to have shown interested in Stoke City defender Ryan Shotton. Burnley are believed to have offered a six-figure sum for the 22-year-old, while Derby are also mentioned in connection with the right-back or centre-half.

Liking the quality of the players PJ is after. It's always going to be a longshot to such such players, but if just a couple bite then others will follow. I think he's done a fantastic job this summer, with just about every signing being better than those who've moved on. (Yes, I do think Chops is better for us at this time than Connor!)

Never really thought him good, but then again he has spent most of his career in the Premiership; nice try, and we move onto the next target.

Read " fight for my place" as " I don't want a drop in wages".

I saw Anton driving up Peckham Rye a few weeks back. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but I'd rather not see that kind of Bentley in the car park at Portman Road.

Vic: Couldn't agree more. Admittedly CW scored the wonder goal against Sheffield Utd last season, but he also missed a hatful of better chances from closer in. Chops on the other hand, is deadly in front of goal.

As far as central defenders are concerned, I agree that this is still a cause for concern. Maybe PJ may have to get ME to dig deep in his pockets for that position.

PJ may have a few more bob to play with if Leadbitter is sold. Once again, I don't think that this would be much of a loss. Just another one of Keane's unfortunate buys!!

One of the Baby Bentley brigade Curbishleyor Pardew referred to at West Ham, so not surprised he's sitting on his money rather than play.

Also makes Titus look like a concentrating genius!

Lucky escape far too casual - we want hungry players not prima donnas.

Ambition being shown by paul jewell is awesome, bringing the likes of bowyer and andrews to the team, and aiming for players like this is such a breath of fresh air! Start doing well in the league and these sorts of players may be tempted!

Just seen Wayne Brown having breakfast/brunch (?) outside Isaac's with his wife/girlfriend. Free agent after being released by Preston NE. Surely we're not going to...

I thought we were trying to clear out the ex-Sunderland players.

Anton ' big time Charlie ' Ferdinand, do what you've become best at, sit on your harris and collect your wages. Another score point for Keith Andrews, could have done the same thing but wants to play rather than warm a bench !
