Hull Aware of Competition for Ayala
Hull Aware of Competition for Ayala
Tuesday, 9th Aug 2011 12:11

Hull City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare says he’s aware that his club has competition for the signature of Spanish defender Daniel Ayala. The Blues and Premier League new boys Swansea are also understood to be chasing the 20-year-old centre-half.

The Tigers are believed to have had a fee of £850,000 accepted by the Reds for the 6ft 3in Spanish U21 international, who spent time on loan at the KC Stadium last season, but Shakespeare says he’s not sure whether he will sign: "We believe we have made a fair offer but we're not sure where Daniel and his agent see him next. We would love to have him back on board here but there is another club involved."

Ayala, who joined Liverpool from Sevilla’s youth set-up in 2007, has also spent time on loan at Derby, in addition to making five senior appearances for the Anfield club.

Asked about links with the El Saucejo-born defender yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell, himself a former Liverpool youngster, wouldn’t be drawn: “We could be here all day talking about speculation.

“I don’t want to be evasive, if I do something I want to do it quietly and when we do something you’ll get to know but I don’t want to do business through the papers because I don’t think it’s the right way.

“Some things get out, some are true, some are not, and I don’t really want to comment on that one way or another.”

Seems PJ is willing to spend money on young talent such as JET, Creswell and Ayala while the older recruits are freebies. Hardly a shock as Evans has seen some big additions depreciate and ultimately leave on a free. I like this approach, I can't see a single of PJ's 7 signings dropping in value. Seen a bit of this lad and he looks good. Also if Hull have had him on loan and are keen to pay this sort of money to sign him then he must have showed them something in that period. Go get him PJ!!

My wife and her family are all Man City season ticket holders. Boyata is a fantastic talent, who despite their high spending, was still getting some first team action last season. Has made a couple of high profile Bramblesque gaffs, but is young and will learn. I would be surprised if there were not Premiership clubs interested if he were available on loan. Can't see him going to Bristol City! Ayala is probably more realistic for Town.

850,000 could be a steal.

If a premier league team like Swansea show an interest in signing a player then I think that most players will much prefer to play in the top league. Granted they are favourites for relegation, but if he has a good season then there is always a good chance another 'smaller' premier league team will make a bid for him

maybe the young lad is going to make his mind up AFTER this saturdays game with Hull....he may be buggered if its a draw though!

Nitro, maybe the team that wins has the strongest defenders already? I think he'll sign the team that offer the best package.

Would be a good signing but expect he will go to Swansea. Whilst on a Hull theme I see Jimmy B has now been given a squad number and is training with the first team. Presumably if they have to pay his wages they are looking to actually get some value out of him (either that or put him in the shop window).

Not related at all I know, but Sky have just announced that we've signed Keith Andrews from Blackburn on a six-month loan.

Forget Ayala, if Swansea are interested then he will go there, they can pay Prem wages so just move on.
