Town Linked With Move for Bowyer
Town Linked With Move for Bowyer
Saturday, 2nd Jul 2011 23:33

Town are being linked with a move for veteran midfielder Lee Bowyer, who is a free agent after leaving Birmingham at the end of the season.

The Blues are reported to be in talks with the 34-year-old former Charlton, Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle man regarding a deal which would make him amongst the highest earners at Portman Road. Derby are also understood to be in the hunt.

The controversial 5ft 9in tall Londoner won one full England cap when a Leeds player in 2002, in addition to 13 U21 caps.

Town are certainly in the market for central midfield players with loanee Jimmy Bullard and skipper David Norris no longer at the club.

On Friday, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he expected to make another signing on Tuesday with a further deal likely before the end of the week.

for heavens sake what is wrong with people. the incident every1 is going on about all those years ago?bowyer was found NOT GUILTY, on all charges against him. so nothing to report on that 1. many of those complaining hes too old are the same people who have suggested we should sign kevin phillips(37), & bullard, who is only 2 years younger with a poor injury record. so, get a grip, & get behind him should he sign. pj has made it clear he wants some experienced players this seaon, this would make it 2 older players hes bought. just what we need. for whoever it was said why does no1 else want him? it was reported only last week that leeds wanted him, for a start. plus. if theyt hadnt been relegated birmingham would have offered him a new deal. so come on folks, put u7r own prejudices aside & get behind each & every player thar signs for our club this summer, & beyond. coyb

Purely on his football ability, one season who be alright.

For what it's worth and this isn't meant to read as a rant, my humble opinion on him as a person is he clearly has had some.....'very low points'..... in his career.

I DON'T AGREE WITH THEM AND THEY WERE CLEARLY MORONIC, but I have to say I was no angel when I was younger, not that I was ever involved with something like the Leeds players were alleged to have been I have to add, but none the less I'm in my mid thirties now and have grown up and just get on with my life.

For those who don't want him because of that incident ask yourself this, If a member of your family had been involved in a similar incident in there early twenties and were going for a new job or for example were a sportsperson and if people reacted in the same way as some have to this story, wouldn't you just want folk to give them a chance to show that they had grown up?

Oh, and before anyone says that by saying what I have means that I'm supporting the racist element, I'm clearly not. I have been the victim of racism as an Englishman living in Scotland, most 'banter' but some very hurtful and I still see those individuals around as I live in a small community but I still say hello because i believe they were young and stupid and didn't know what they were doing and I would even class some of them as friends now.

TO the fans saying '' no he is a thug/racist etc''. Read this interview from a couple of years ago, you will soon change your minds: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1201758/Could-wrong-Lee-Bowyer
Also whatever he does off the field, he is undoubtably a great footballer and would be an incredible signing for us.

Reuserfreekicks answer the question WHO SIGNED HIM FOR NEWCASTLE?

blues1 added 17:33 - Jul 3
reuserfreekicks. would ne of the past managers of itfc have signed some1 like him? a midfield player who is a tough tackler. a midfield player who can pass the ball. amidfield player who can read the game/ a midfield player who scores goals. oh yes, sir bobby robson, the greatest manager of all time signed him. as for the rubbish you, &many others on here are talking about, do you know him personally or are you believing what u read in the media? yer, i thought so. for the last time, he was found NOT GUILTY of all charges relating to the alleged racist attack, whereas woodgate & others all found guilty. yes, hes got sent off for some bad challenges at times. then again, even lee martin did that last season. does that mean he shoouldnt sign for us. of course not. hes exactly the type of player this club needs. simple as that

Shloopdelang. I have just read the Mail article relating to Mr Bowyer, it appears he has nothing to answer for, as i already suspected. Perhaps if he comes & joins our club the blinkered fans who are condeming him now will read the article, take stock then start to appreciate him as a footballer first. blues1, you are so right.

Lee Bowyer has a TERRIBLE disciplinary record. Definitely the most yellow cards in a season. So, huge talent but terribly uncontrollable.

We need to put out a TEAM in 2011/12, not someone who would pick a fight with Dyer in the middle of a match.

For the happiness of the squad, we don't need more psychological problems.

Haven't we learnt this from the Keane experience?

Its is very, very sad to see just how low our club has sunk, if he signs then this will be my last season as a ST holder, plenty of decent players out there and we think another 34 year old is the answer, very, very disappointed.

'We saw him as a wide player who could excel in central midfield.'
'On a free transfer he was too good to miss.'
'Many regarded Lee as a pariah. The same objection was placed in front of us. We knew it was coming. We knew we'd take a whack but we were prepared to take that blow. We calculated that this would be a two-day controversy, after which we would be able to get on with our lives.'
'He never gave us a moment's trouble. His commitment to the club was first rate and we knew of no off-the-field indiscretions to cause us alarm.'
