Town Linked With Move for Bowyer Saturday, 2nd Jul 2011 23:33
Town are being linked with a move for veteran midfielder Lee Bowyer, who is a free agent after leaving Birmingham at the end of the season.
The Blues are reported to be in talks with the 34-year-old former Charlton, Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle man regarding a deal which would make him amongst the highest earners at Portman Road. Derby are also understood to be in the hunt.
The controversial 5ft 9in tall Londoner won one full England cap when a Leeds player in 2002, in addition to 13 U21 caps.
Town are certainly in the market for central midfield players with loanee Jimmy Bullard and skipper David Norris no longer at the club.
On Friday, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he expected to make another signing on Tuesday with a further deal likely before the end of the week.

What he did was wrong but i believe in 2nd chances! And also I want ITFC to gain promotion!
Others Teams are willing to sign them to gain promotion and and benefit their team... E.g. B'Ham City and Marlon King... If we want to gain promotion from this league we need to stop looking at peoples personal lives and sign them for football reasons so we can get out of this league!
mutters - i have no clue as to what happened that night.
but what if it had nothing to do with skin colour?? maybe a bloke upset them and they reacted in the same way as if it was a white, black or blue bloke. like i said i dont know the case but people can be very quick to play the race card.
just a slight point but the other day there were several people over the moon at being linked with jonathan woodgate who was involved in the very same incident with lee bowyer!!! He is a great player and i for one would welcome him as he is a completly different character to the man he was then. Also over the years had we been asked if we would like cantona, fowler, maradona we would have jumped at the chance yet they all assulted people or where linked with drug abuse, or how abut if joey barton was linked would we say no? I dont condone what he did but i think he has proven he is a better person and plays good football and surely thats what we need here?
Off to bed as Katherine Jenkins in Christchurch park bored the arse off me tonight. The bloke from the go compare adverts was good though. Maybe he could come & sing at one of our pre match build ups. Sign up Bowyer on a 1 year deal, then judge him on his behaviour & performances on the pitch.
Thanks for that link... The people is quite a highly rated paper so the move may well be close and Jewell may well be looking at bullard again... The people Is a good paper to get it from dont usually get much wrong.
Hope this is just paper talk. A complete and utter scum bag. Horrible person. I'm sorry, but I have pride in my club and am proud that we do not house players of the nature of this man. I really hope we do not sign him.
Some of you people are absolute morons!! Lee Bowyer is this Lee Bowyer is that!! He later went on to join West Ham and was a fans favourite, and West Ham have a massive Asian fan community so if he can be accepted there why not here? All of this was over 10 years ago! That's a long time and we as humans learn and become better people because of our mistakes. Rant over.
So all you moaners will stay in your seats not cheering or clapping when he scores....correct? I mean why would you all cheer and applaud someone you hate so much?
Within the past year, he's shown that he's still a violent man - stamping on & stud-raking opponents, verbally abusing at least one fan.
In nearly 40 years of supporting Town, there's never been a player that I'd steer a wide berth of if seeing him in the street. Please don't let him be the first.
Lets sign Lee Hughes while we are at it... after all, whatever happens off the pitch doesn't matter to some fans anymore!!! Ipswich fans used to be above that. I remember the Leeds trial very, very well, which some on here clearly do not, or choose not to. Woodgate looked visibly shaken and remorseful and humiliated. He clearly looked like he learned his lesson, and was a different player after that. I actually respect him for that. Boyer looked his cocky self and signed autographs to stupid Leeds fans outside the court, after an Asian student ended up fighting for his life in a coma, having been set upon by a group of men down an alleyway. Even though they were let off, it didn't show much respect did it. Leeds spent millions on their defence, went bust soon afterwards, and most of the players they worked so hard to defend then cleared off straight away. I feel very strongly about this. Yes it was some time ago, but his record hasn't been great since. Woodgate on the other hand had been exemplary. And I am sick and tired of people putting football above all else and not caring what people have done, or how the victims or their families feel, just because they can kick a ball. Some players have committed horrific crimes. For instance, ask yourself, How would you feel if a player had killed or raped or harmed someone you knew? Would you be saying flippant comments like ah but its in the past, let he who cast the first stone, etc, etc. Would you cheer if they scored a goal for your team? I am sorry for sounding harsh and unforgiving, and getting on my soapbox. I am normally really positive about players we are linked to and back them all the way. And I am not talking about every crime or incident. We all make.mistakes. But when people are hurt, or people don't care, it annoys me. In this country, people all moan about criminals and thugs being given an easy time, and victims bring ignored, but when its a footballer, it doesn't matter, and we defend them, because if they score a goal for our team, then that's fine... Ipswich Town is better than this. And if he does joint us, and if he does score, damn right I will not be standing up cheering.
