Fülöp’s Turkey Move Stuffed
Friday, 24th Jun 2011 11:04

Town keeper Márton Fülöp’s proposed move to Bursaspor looks to be off with the Turkish side having turned their attention back to their initial target, West Brom’s Scott Carson. The former England keeper was in Turkey earlier this week to finalise a three-year deal and pass a medical, the clubs having agreed a £2 million fee.

Bursa’s move for Carson appeared to have broken down last week, leading them to look towards Fülöp, the Hungarian’s father and agent Ferenc confirming that a tentative approach had been made.

Fülöp has only a year left on his Blues contract, having signed from Sunderland for £750,000 last August and seems likely to move on during the close season with manager Paul Jewell appearing unconvinced by the 28-year-old, Arran Lee-Barrett having been given the nod ahead of him for a number of games late in the season.

Despite backing his current keepers towards the end of the season, Jewell is understood to want to bring in a new first choice this summer.

Lee-Barrett has signed a new two-year but looks likely to be seen as back-up rather than a regular starter, while Brian Murphy opted against extending his stay and is currently looking for a new club.

may be not top draw but good enough for this league. Who are we going to find as good for the money we would pay and the wages asked? I suppose we will wait and see which goalie on a free is left and take him.

Think if Fulop is here next season, he will benefit from a much better defence than we had last season. Let's hope PJ does some more dealing so we get a good young centre back.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. Fulop may not be perfect but on his day is easily well above average for a goal keeper in this division.

Providing he's willing to sign a new contract it means we can concentrate on more pressing issues i.e. signing outfield players.

Love the headline by the way Phil

All the keepers were inconsistent last season, hence the coach was fired. Be interesting to see who the new coach is and if any improvements can be made with existing keepers.

Shame we didn't go in for Kasper Schmeical..something we should've done 2 years ago,now Leicester have snapped him up on the cheap.

He's good enough, why sell him and waste time looking for another keeper when it's the midfield we urgently need to sort out !

Fulop takes stock of his postion after a basting by the Phil the Pun's headline writing skills. "its time to take some sage advice from my lawyer" He said.
