Fülöp’s Turkey Move Stuffed
Friday, 24th Jun 2011 11:04

Town keeper Márton Fülöp’s proposed move to Bursaspor looks to be off with the Turkish side having turned their attention back to their initial target, West Brom’s Scott Carson. The former England keeper was in Turkey earlier this week to finalise a three-year deal and pass a medical, the clubs having agreed a £2 million fee.

Bursa’s move for Carson appeared to have broken down last week, leading them to look towards Fülöp, the Hungarian’s father and agent Ferenc confirming that a tentative approach had been made.

Fülöp has only a year left on his Blues contract, having signed from Sunderland for £750,000 last August and seems likely to move on during the close season with manager Paul Jewell appearing unconvinced by the 28-year-old, Arran Lee-Barrett having been given the nod ahead of him for a number of games late in the season.

Despite backing his current keepers towards the end of the season, Jewell is understood to want to bring in a new first choice this summer.

Lee-Barrett has signed a new two-year but looks likely to be seen as back-up rather than a regular starter, while Brian Murphy opted against extending his stay and is currently looking for a new club.

Yes, keeping Fulop would not be all bad.
Scott Carson. Your career continues to slide into obscurity.

Churchmans Arsenal's 2nd goal was his fault. He was quality in the first leg, and Cardiff away comes to mind. Good keeper but clearly has a bit of a resale value and will be on big wages so with only a year left on his contract we might aswell offload him and get someone else in.

Get him to sign a new contract.

And get him practicing set pieces.

Jimmy .. Bursaspor where Turkish League Champs last season and where in the Champions League (did badly though) .. finished third this season, although Turkish football has show a decline in the last few years, I don't really see this as a step back for Carson.

@robdaful i couldn't agree more, i think he really needs to work on his set pieces.

I would like to see us sign a new keeper this summer regardless of where he ends up, Lee-Barrett just isn't good enough for a first or second choice keeper at Championship level, and it doesn't appear we have some wonder keeper progressing through the youth levels.

Carsons move will be the most bizarre of this transfer window!!!

I thought they would gobble him up. They're clearly not marching to the beat of our drumstick.

Not sure about a Turkey move, but I can do the chicken dance

Special A: I agree. Has any English player ever progressed his career by moving to a Turkish side (something quite a few have done)? It would make more sense for a keeper without ambitions for an England place but perhaps he already feels that is beyond him.

Phil I think this would have been more apt:

Fulop continues to flap at Town after Turkey deals falls through.

CLIVEBAKER arsenal 2nd goal was his fault!!
its a good job it wasnt his fault for the other 6or7 clear chances they had otherwise it could of been 7 or 8 nil!!
he does need a brush up but thought the comment was a bit harsh on him for that game!
come to think about it, it was a bad error

agreed itfc1981.
he may flap about a lot but he is probably the best keeper we have had since wright left us for arsenal.

I would like to see us sign Scott Loach but I don't think Fulup is a bad keeper at this level.
Re Wrighty, I seem to recall him flapping at quite a few crosses. Sereni started well before falling away.

timo Blue Seems you have not been watching the young keeper Cody Cropper who is the under 20s USA 1st team Goalkeeper and will be playing in the Milk Cup in July and the Olympic games for the USA next year.Croppers 1 year contract starts this month for Ipswich after a time with the youth academy. He was 18 in Feb this year and seems to be a great prospect for Ipswich in the very near future.I must agree that Lee Barret is the weakest Link?

Its ITFC that have been stuffed not Flapper.Another of the previous managers former players who was only 3rd choice at Sunderland when we had the mis-fortuneto sign on for mega wages and a vastly over priced fee.Agree with churchmans that he needs to practise catching a ball, and clive baker Flapper just got lucky against Cardiff.

Please can we try and get Andy Lonegran from Preston now they have been relegated.

itfc4eva added 12:39 - Jun 24
fair point. loach would be a good player and watford are keen on lowering their wage bill. fulop isnt too bad but sadly he is in his late twenties - early thirties and loach is under-21. he ay have a pricetag on him but if we sign him up and get another centre half than we can make a proper push for promotion next season. we need to keep wickham as well
