Bournemouth's Pearce Set to Rejoin Pompey
Bournemouth's Pearce Set to Rejoin Pompey
Friday, 24th Jun 2011 08:49

Bournemouth central defender Jason Pearce, who has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions this summer, is expected to rejoin Portsmouth today. The two clubs are understood to have agreed a fee last night with the 23-year-old set to undergo a medical at Fratton Park today.

Pearce joined the Cherries from Pompey in 2007 with a 50% sell-on clause included in the deal, an arrangement which presumably put Steve Cotterill’s club in pole position to re-sign him. The clause led to a proposed move to Peterborough breaking down earlier in the month.

Town have also made an enquiry regarding Preston centre-half Sean St Ledger, a player manager Paul Jewell targeted in January. Leicester have also been linked with the Republic of Ireland international.

Meanwhile, Charlton are believed to be the club who have had an offer accepted by Dagenham and Redbridge for winger Danny Green, another player the Blues are believed to have been monitoring. Green is set for talks with the Addicks when he returns from his holiday in early July.

Elsewhere, free agent midfielder Neil Kilkenny, whose agent confirmed interest from the Blues and a number of Championship clubs earlier in the week, is reportedly in talks with Bristol City having left Leeds at the end of the season.

Cardiff are said to have spoken to £2 million-rated Dundee United striker David Goodwillie, another player to have been linked with the Blues over the summer. Earlier in the week, winger Craig Conway joined the Bluebirds from the Terrors.

Former Blue Dean McDonald has moved to Ryman Premier League club Carshalton Athletic from Blue Square South side Farnborough Town.

Great so we wont be getting any of our targets! Was really excited by the prospect of Pearce and Green, Players with a real desire to move up through the leagues instead have to look forward to Nosworthy.

Shame thought he would be a decent player. Pompey in pole position by far as anyone else would have to pay twice as much so always likely to go there if they wanted him

Shame i thought pearce would of been an ideal town player, but portsmouth are in the driving seat with that 50% clause.

Im pretty sure PJ has others up his sleeve

Ipswich24 - Town dont comment on speculation, so how do you know which REAL TARGETS we have missed out on?

We dont know for sure who PJ is after.

Ipswich24 there are plenty other players he probably has in mind relax personally i wouldn't mind if we get him st ledger and have ingimarrson at the back.

So don't panic still plenty of other targets left to look at and of course i like them to be youth some of them but if they have been there and done it players then why not bring them in who cares if they are over 29 for example.

Cornish nick - agree with you! Worse for me cos I live here and get to read the local rag about Norris and now Pearce! And of course the fans giving it the big one because not only are they getting these players but they done us 2-0 in our own back yard! Obviously I don't want Nugent to sign for us! Cue the 'taking our players now' argument

Ipswich24 - Welcome to the real world.

Pompey seem to be offering massive wages and the 50% sell on has dictated that they were in pole position.

Many fans moan when we miss out on signings, as if its a failing of the management. The reality is that ITFC will be mid table on a players list of preffered clubs to join. I am pretty confident that most players would have a preference for the following clubs ahead of Ipswich, either due to wages on offer, recent premiership appearance or recently being competitive for the playoffs;

West Ham
Leicester
Portsmouth
M'Boro
Forest
Birmingham
Burnley

After the above preffered clubs, ITFC will be fighting it out with the following;

Southampton
Leeds
Hull City
Derby County
Cardiff City
Reading

This proves how competitive the Championship is, and fans need to be realistic as to how difficult it will be to land transfer targets.

I for one think PJ and SC are doing a good job.

Diamond G - Agreed, and I have faith in PJ... even think he might get Ellington to do a job.

one thing in our favour if PJ manages to get something on the go and it looks like we might be there or there abouts mid season, we know ME has the cash to invest to turn the tables in our favour...... how many other clubs have that behind them who arent already splurging cash about......

There is something wrong with Ipswich's strategy in the transfer market. We are continually linked with promising players but aren't able to sign any. This must prove that we are targeting the wrong players. There is a level of player that would be only too happy to sign for Portman Road given the chance.

The recent signings show we are scraping around the league for players that haven't impressed last season and who are only able to command fairly high wages. There is no guarantee these players are going to deliver a promotion push and after all their previous clubs didn't want them.

Ipswich need to rebuild next season and it needs to identify young talented footballers from the lower leagues with something to prove. And then we should keep our mouths shut until we sign them.

We've suffered 5-6 seasons of "links" to this and that player and haven't signed any of them. Ipswich need to get real about their position in this league and get real about who they can actually sign.

Other clubs manage, why are we fed such rubbish week- in, week- out?

jonhazelbum - Its all just speculation.

PJ and RK stated that we dont have characters in the dressing room. He is bringing in experienced players. He may also bring in some younger players to help, but he recognises we need players who are willing to take responsibility.

Would have liked to see Pearce come here, but looks like Pompey were in pole position all along. Can't understand how teams in so-called financial straits, recent administration, huge debts etc, like Pompey, Cardiff, West Ham, still seem able to sign some of the best and more expensive players...
