Dyer Exits West Ham
Dyer Exits West Ham

Former Town midfielder Kieron Dyer is understood to have been released by newly-relegated West Ham with his lucrative contract up at the end of the season. The 32-year-old spent a month on loan with the Blues towards the end of 2010/11 and could well end up returning to his hometown club on a permanent basis during the close season.

Speaking in March, Dyer said that a summer move to Portman Road could be amongst his options: “I’m not boasting or bragging, but I’m in a very fortunate situation in that whatever my decision is — whether it be to go abroad and try something different, come home or go to another Championship club or try America — it’ll come down to a family point of view and from a footballing standpoint.

“It’s the love of the game and wanting to play the game that’s driving me on. When you’re injured, you want to get back on the pitch and get that buzz of playing. That’s what gets you through.

“I’m not in football for the financial point of the game. Whatever my decision is in the summer it’s purely going to be on football and my family, which is a good position to be in. I’ll have to have a break in the summer and take it from there.”

After Dyer returned to West Ham at the end of his initial month, Blues boss Paul Jewell confirmed that he would consider moving for the ex-Newcastle man if he became available: “We spoke at length, me and Kieron, and I spoke to West Ham on Friday morning to see if we could extend [the loan].

“That’s his club and he has to go back and if things change in the summer we would be interested.”

Given the former England man’s injury history — he managed only one start and three sub appearances in his loan spell and subsequently picked up a knock in the Hammers’ reserves which prevented any further games - a much-reduced contract based on a pay-as-you-play basis may well be on the cards.

Premier League Everton have also been mentioned in connection with a move for Dyer, while there have been rumours of interest from clubs in the Middle East.

Suffolk-born defender Matthew Upson is also believed to have been told he can leave Upton Park with his terms also up this summer.

Could be worth it but only on a Pay-Per-Play basis

No real surprise regarding Dyer, the Upson situation interests me, I often see him in and about ipswich town center so clearly he still has roots here, the least we could do is ask him the question. I think its a long shot but you gotta buy a ticket if you wanna win it.

We might as well get him if he is on a cheap pay as you play deal! That way we have a fantastic player that could make real difference if fit and mean if fit

We couldn't afford Upson's wages, even if he did want to come to us. He'll go to a Prem club - he could even do a job for Arsenal.

Before we get too excited about Kieron, checkout what money he was on.

Good god no .... i'm 54 and my knees are in a better condition than his and I bet I can run faster. He WAS a fantastic player 8 years ago..... not now.

As for Upson... well we will sign him when we sign Messi... no chance!

That looks a very reliable source!!

Anyway we all know he's on loads but NO-ONE is going to offer him anything like that, as the article says, pay-as-you-play is about all he can hope for.

Just so you know mate, Bullard has the bad knees, Dyer had 2 broken legs and then considerable muscle injuries, I believe he only had 1 knee injury in his career, however the consistent injury reasoning is a valid argument undoubtedly. However Dyer is still very fast, probably fastest man in our team (admittedly not saying much) watched him in parent and child race at my school (his son goes to the junior school at st jo's) and he is absolutly lightening.

Just Google WHUFC-FIXTURES-2009-2010.xls, its the first one I came to.

Point I was making, is he value for money? Possibly pay per play but not convinced he would go for that.

Sorry but no room for sentimentality here..Dyer has been injury prone ever since leaving us 12 years ago...let's spend the money on Jimmy Bullard please.

Why would Upson come here when he's playing for England? (sporadically i admit)

"watched him in parent and child race at my school (his son goes to the junior school at st jo's) and he is absolutly lightening"

lightning in comparison to a load of kids and their fat overweight dads then! Guess it shows he still has a competitive streak if winning it meant that much to him!

why are we moaning about signing a premiership class footballer who was recently earning 70-80k per week!!! AND Everton have shown an interest in him... surely thats shows that we would be getting one hell of a player.. even if he does get injured for half the season.. the half that he is fit could be the difference between us finishing mid table again or getting in the playoffs!!!!! look how much difference bullard made to our team in the few months he was here!! so everyone thats moaned, please cheer the f### up!!! you should be please we could get a player of his quality!!!!!!!!

Would be a really good signing even if he played half the games ,has experience ,obvious quality and loves Ipswich . We need more match winners in the squad and Dyer is certainly that on his day .
Alot on this site wrote off Bullard before he came then he walks away with player of the year !
