Jewell's Staff Set for Changes
Jewell's Staff Set for Changes
Sunday, 8th May 2011 10:36

Boss Paul Jewell’s coaching staff looks set to change this summer with goalkeeper-coach James Hollman likely to be the first of a number of departures. The Town manager kept on most of the existing members of the backroom after his appointment in mid-January.

Speaking on Thursday, Jewell says he’s always looking to improve all areas of the club: “Like everything else you’re always re-evaluating your staff. When I came in I said I’d have a look at it. Staff, like players, are important and sometimes a manager comes in and changes things, most managers change things.

“Most staff only get jobs because someone else is being moved on. It’s never anything personal. I’m looking at the whole structure of the staff, both senior and junior and trying to improve everything, which is what I want to do. I want to have an input on almost everything that goes on on the football side of it.”

Shortly after his appointment Jewell brought in his long-time associate Chris Hutchings as his assistant and his one-time Bradford strike partner Sean McCarthy as a coach, while Roy Keane’s deputies Charlie McParland and Tony Loughlan left the club. David Hamilton, who had worked under Jewell at Derby and Wigan, subsequently joined as a scout.

The rest of the senior coaching staff served under Keane and in most cases Jim Magilton. Chris Kiwomya is currently the reserves coach, Steve McCall the chief scout and Simon Thadani and Antonio Gomez the fitness coaches.

In February, Blues legend Russell Osman joined the club's youth set-up as assistant academy manager, coaching the U18s, working under academy manager Sammy Morgan.

After Saturday’s game at Leicester, Jewell wouldn’t comment on Hollman’s situation with the keeper-coach understood to be leaving the club and not with the squad at the Walkers Stadium.

Jewell’s former Wigan keeper Mike Pollitt, a one-time Town loanee, has been tipped for a move to Portman Road.

No great shakes really.

PJ knows we need fresh ideas and experience as the current existing coaches seem to be stuck to the usual .

Let's ask zidane to come in to show how to pass , move and show passion ( head butts ).

Any changes Jewell make have my support, and Pollitt coming in could be a really good move as he could be a backup goalkeeper (replacing Murphy) as well as a coach.

'What does he actually do'
You could also add Stuart McCall name to the list of possible being replaceable
Hollman is long overdue

Reserve football is a joke as there is no real competition anymore,
so might as well leave that appointment as it is

Regarding youth.
Klugg, removal was a strange one by the club, and probably a Keane dislike of him as his record stood up.
Pejic didn't last long with his methods apparently

Shame Russell Osman's not more involved with the first team..would be great to see a town legend on the pitchside.

Hollman's as good as gone then! Not a bad move - as the keeper situation has been poor all season!

Isnt Hollman the man that made Robert Green into an England Goalkeeper while at Norwich!? The poor guy was let go by town after being Wrightys understudy back in the day and must have been made up after he got the job offer to come back! Hasnt had the best of keepers to work with has he? Fulop is dog, murphy is about 3foot1 at a push and lee-barrett, another local lad is low on confidence! If your all REAL town fans anybody with a pair of eyes can see there wasnt a hont of passion against Norwich... we need more local lads with passion at the club that know the club know the fans and will give %110 everytime they put on a shirt! Bad move if we let Jimbo go!

Hollman might have made Rob Green. And I think he trained Joe Lewis (think)
but he's no good. Think how these keepers must feel being trained by someone who hasn't done much in the game or had much experince of a match.

Its like someone coming in to your job which you've done for years and telling you what to do.

Wold like to see an experienced keeper coach thats been there and knows what our current keepers are going through. So Mike Pollitt would be a good choice :)

There never seemed the intensity with the keepers that was developed by the previous goalkeeping coach. However all the training and support in the world cannot stop poor goalkeeping during the game. Seems like this chap will be taking the rap for the players.

The scouting staff needs a radical shake up as they must have submitted reports on all players coming to the club. In some instances they have made poor decisions on the potential of players signed.
