Bullard and Murphy Missing at Leicester
Bullard and Murphy Missing at Leicester
Saturday, 7th May 2011 12:49

Midfielder Jimmy Bullard and goalkeeper Brian Murphy are missing from the Town line-up for this afternoon’s end of season game at Leicester. The goalkeeper’s absence may well confirm rumours suggesting that the Irishman has turned down his new contract.

The former Bohemians man was due to meet with Paul Jewell yesterday to give him his decision.

Central defender Gareth McAuley returns for what must be his final Town game after a groin injury, while skipper David Norris may also be playing his last match for the Blues.

Connor Wickham is back after his rib injury, while Lee Martin returned after his three-match ban and Josh Carson dropped to the bench.

Town: Fülöp, Edwards, Kennedy, Delaney, McAuley, Norris, Leadbitter, Healy, Martin, Wickham, Scotland. Subs: Peters, Lee-Barrett, Drury, Brown, Civelli, Murray, Carson.

Good to see Jewell's taken this rare opportunity to have a look at some of the fringe youth players against Championship opposition.

Oh.

Seems everyone wants to complain about the not showing youth team etc. I am happy to see us play a strong team...seems everyone forgets part of our income relates to where we finish in the table, we can climb two places today with a win, that = more money (maybe not much) but more for the coffers. After all we are A BUSINESS that needs money like any other.

AndyUK61873 - agree, but not only that, the club surely have an obligation to the fans who have travelled to Leicester today. If they wanted to watch the youth team ...

Looks like Murphy is on his way then. A great shame. Far better than ALB and IMO on par with Fulop. As for Bullard, well perhaps he has agreed terms elsewhere or injured again. Bullard is a great player, but his past injury woes must surely be a concern - particularly given how much we would need to pay him.

3v0 down half time. Its not even like we are playing our fringe players! What a shambles! We need 2 new CB's a RB a goalkeeper (Westwood ideally) ANd 2 new bloody strikers! And another CM

The season is over for us and has been for several weeks, time for a clear out and I must admit I could'nt care less who stays and who goes, we will miss virtually no-one from those out of contract, we are in desparate need of some fresh blood, people like Peters, O'Connor, Brown and Murray should have been playing ever since the Norwich debacle, and players like McAuley and Norris who have refused to commit should have been dropped.

Think a few people are on holiday already! Disappointing...

I doubt BM was going to be a first choice keeper for us next year so could well be in his best interests to move on career-wise. It will be interesting to see what sort of offers he gets though, having barely played this season...

Take off Scotland and we score two goals inside two min.
What's going on Ipswich?
are we playing 4-5-1, 4-4-2 or 4-3-3?

So Murphy refused a new contract and is dropped from squad, but Norris and McAuley still keep their places, consistent ?

These players don't want to be here. Obviously noo pride in their work aswell as self respect and lack respect for their employers and customers ( that's us lot by the way)

Totally agree tractorboy2434 inconsistent with team selection given that Norris and McAuley who don't appear to want to play for us next season are in the starting 11 and Murphy who imo has the safest hands (everything sticks and don't bounce off) is not even in the squad for turning down offer of contract.

O no we really need Westwood with this news about Murphy.

I didn't rate him as high as Fulop but miles better than ALB.

As for bullard it sounds like we missed him.

I heard Norris has been looking at houses in London as he's nearly signed for Crystal Palace.

Re Norris, who cares, average midfielder for whom we paid over the odds, the wrong side of 30, he wants to go, there is the door.

So Murphy's gone. Ho hum. While I wish him well, he was never going to be our No 1 keeper. The goalkeeper is a fundamental part of the team. All successful teams have a good goalie. All our keepers in recent years have been competent at best. Good games, yes but consistently able, no.

MF, BM, ALB are all good, up to a point, but good enough?, in my opinion, no.

Sorry guys, The bus taking BM out of town has spare seats available.

Westwood would be good. A real step forward.
