Bullard: Money Isn't Everything
Bullard: Money Isn't Everything
Sunday, 3rd Apr 2011 10:53

Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard has again hinted that he would be prepared to take a significant pay cut to move to Portman Road on a permanent basis in the summer. Bullard, 32, has two years remaining on his Hull City contract which is worth £45,000-a-week, 21% of the Tigers’ wage bill.

But speaking to one of Sunday's tabloids, the one-time England call-up reiterated his comments from a fortnight ago when he said that the financial side of football is far from his only concern: “Money isn’t everything to me. I’ve really enjoyed my time on loan at Portman Road and would love a permanent move.”

Town would probably only stretch to paying the former Peterborough, Wigan and Fulham man around 40% of his current earnings at most, while any deal will hinge on the midfielder and Hull being able to settle his current contract. Any fee received by the Tigers is likely to go towards this pay-off.

Bullard has scored four goals in 11 starts since joining the Blues on a half-season loan in January.

Elsewhere, the Blues are again linked with West Brom striker Simon Cox with a £1.5 million summer offer said to be on the cards. Blues boss Paul Jewell has previously targeted signing the 23-year-old on loan with an eye towards a longer term deal.

Of course money isn't everything... When you have a contract that needs to be satisfied/paid off and zero chance of getting a similar deal. I'm not criticising Bullard here but that's what his agent will be thinking. The contract pay off will be a huge money boost for him (and Bullard as well) and then a 2-3 year contract to finish his playing career on a high.

TigerPhil :- Is it possible that he didn't fancy a move to Celtic and just thought and just thought I'll ask for an extra stupid sum , if they don't want to pay it then fine, if they do then I'll go ?

Jimmy is a good player on his day, theres no doubt. But as much as id love him to stay,a few factors make me think he wont.A club like qpr or another club with cash to spend will easily see us off in any proposed deal.We will hear plenty of this talk over the next few weeks, its a usual club pitch.

Jimmy certinly is an excellent player and i have read all your comments about bonus' for him to keep the wage bill down, but in all honesty, it should be the same for all players, my mate who works next tome doesnt get paid more, the same should be for a football team, basic 5 grand (roughly £250,000pa) with lots of incentives, goals, assists, win bonus, football is a business and if the business is doing well the the players get rewarded, if not they get a basic, and the better town do the more fans they will attract, x
