Liverpool's Comolli Watches Town
Liverpool's Comolli Watches Town

Liverpool’s director of football strategy Damien Comolli was at Portman Road yesterday to run the rule over Town striker Connor Wickham. Liverpool have long been linked with the 17-year-old, although Spurs, who were also represented at the 1-1 draw with Hull, are understood to be the frontrunners for the youngster's signature.

Tottenham’s academy manager John McDermott and their assistant technical co-ordinator Chris Ramsey watched the match along with former Town coach Charlie Woods, who also now works at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, one of this morning’s papers reports that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are also continuing to keep tabs on the England U21 international.

Elsewhere, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised the quality of players coming through in the Championship: “It looks more and more that there are many good young players coming out of these clubs too.

“Look at Nottingham Forest for example — they are all good young players. Derby too, and Ipswich, who we played recently, have produced Connor Wickham. So there are good young players down there.

“Maybe the academy rules help them too, because teams cannot take young players from other clubs’ areas.”

I think he'd stay unless we get some stuffy guy called D'Arcy in the team. Then there'd be trouble.

Paulnstar. A team can only beat what is put before them. Like most Town followers, i believe we are realistic enough deep down to know that at present, the team is not good enough to achieve a play off place, however, next season will be a different matter and (with or without young Connor), we could well be up in the higher echelons of the championship. I have every faith that if the club does indeed sell it,s biggest asset for a large fee, our manager will spend the clubs money wisely, but for now, enjoy his undoubted talent for the rest of the season & possibly beyond.

Slightly surprised that people see Liverpool's director of football strategy making the trip to watch CW as a non-story I have to say. A definite step up from just the local scout keeping an eye on him.

I cannot believe that people would call any story on this site boring. As far as I'm aware those that run it do so at their own free will and give up their own free time.
There are very few other sites like this and we are very lucky as Ipswich fans to have it so stop your moaning!

I also agree! Whether it's interesting or not, it's still news, therefore should be reported. To all the naysayers remember, you still read the story and commented on it despite the headline clearly stating what the story contained.

dirtydingusmagee and WordUp, totally agree with you. I now live [ like a lot of others ] too far from Ipswich to hear ANY news of our team, so this site [ Phil, Gavin etc ] and all you fellow supporters, are a lifeline for me to a team I have supported since Sir Bobby's days. Call me a saddo, but I do want to hear even the smallest snippet, a crumb or a whisper about the boys. So Phil and Gavin please keep reporting and a huge thankyou ! Sorry if it sounds a bit airy fairy but its just passion !
