Town Target Villa Defender Beye
Town Target Villa Defender Beye

Town are understood to be interested in taking Aston Villa right-back Habib Beye on loan. The 33-year-old is out of favour at Villa Park having made only 14 starts and two sub appearances since he joined them from Newcastle in the summer of 2009.

The French-born Senegal international last featured for Villa in the Carling Cup in October and has recently been training with the reserves.

Beye’s first English club was Newcastle United, who paid Marseille £2 million for the six-foot tall right-back or centre-half in August 2007. Prior to that he was with Paris St Germain and Strasbourg.

Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he was hoping to bring in “one or two” loan players before the end of the week with a right-back a not unlikely target with Carlos Edwards currently playing in what is an unfamiliar role.

Sounds very good. Very good for Newcastle in their relegation season where many fans were very disappointed he left. Could be one of the best in this league if he plays that well again and after this poor season we should be able to get him cheap should we buy him at the end of the season

Not sure I see the point in this one. Would be a useful addition (I remember a few years ago he was regarded as one of the best right backs around) but his wages would be expensive and the current squad seems more than capable of steering us away from the relegation spots. The Play offs aren't a realistic target at this stage, so would rather conserve the resources for a determined push next season...

I have a lot of friends and famuily that are newcastle fans and they still adore this guy. He is solid, can push forward and is strong. He is a good leader and in a terrible season for Newcastle when they got relegated, this guy really shone.

Would love to make a signing like this.

Yep, do it Jewellio. Ok, not about to become a permanent signing but would be great quality in this league. And on the wages, there's a good chance we won't have to pay them all.
And the "Happy Days" chant is worth the money anyway!

it's tough on edwards and peters but if PJ is going to play 4-4-2 then we need a (defensive) right back, and this guy seems to fit the bill
