McAuley Called Up
McAuley Called Up
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 17:17

Town defender Gareth McAuley has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for their Carling Nations Cup match against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday 9th February.

McAuley has previously won 25 caps and has scored one international goal.

Elsewhere, Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed reports linking his club with former Swan Jason Scotland: "There's no doubt he's a player that at this level can score goals, but I haven't spoken to Paul Jewell or anyone of that ilk so he's… obviously an Ipswich player."

Hopefully we will get McAuley's contract sorted soon.

It's a pity Swansea have not bid for Scotland, as to be honest it would be good to recoup some of the £750K we spent on him. He has been okay at home, but not scoring at all away is poor. He seems to lack pace and fitness, so is rightly behind Priskin and Wickham at the moment. If Austin signed (fingers crosssed!!), Scotland will be fourth choice at Portman Road and at 32 on big wages I am not sure that is good for him or the club.

He may be 4th choice and I agree with everything you say mark but the point of a striker is too score goals and scotland does. He has been clinical for us at home this year and even though hes played less games than some players he is our joint top scorer on 7. I know hes not played great but the job of a striker is to score goals and he does that. Only sell him for what we bought him or to fund both McAuleys and Norris' contracts otherwise keep him, when needed he can do a job

A more pleasing headline than "McAuley Called Up" would be "McAuley Signed Up," but I have a feeling that ain't going to happen - not for us, anyway. Still, I wouldn't begrudge him the chance to play Premiership football if that's what he gets; but he would be missed.

Big Foot and Mark

I think Scotland can still score us goals, the problem seems to be that we were playing hoof football and Scotland had to chase, He need the ball to feet to score like he did at Swansea.
For me Priskin is playing well, However for the amount of chances he has at goal, still does not score enough, Scotland ratio is higher.

It will be interesting to see if Bullard and Martin can help turn these two in to 15 to 20 a season strikers.

What combination do you play Wickham, Scotland or Priskin, possible Austin.
We seem to be looking for more creative midfileder so it may be just finding the right combo out of the strikers we have.

Exciting times
