Swansea sources are linking Town striker Jason Scotland with a move back to the Liberty Stadium. Scotland enjoyed a hugely successful two-year spell with the Swans between 2007 and 2009, netting 53 goals in 91 starts and 14 sub appearances.

The 31-year-old joined the Blues from Wigan for a fee understood to be in the region of £750,000 in the summer and has scored seven times in 22 starts and six substitute appearances. He is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012.

The Swans, who were interested in signing their former player in the summer before his move to Portman Road, yesterday allowed ex-Town frontman Shefki Kuqi to leave by mutual consent and Scotland may be seen as the man to replace the Finnish international in their squad, given his previous success playing in their lone striker’s role.

Last week, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he had no plans to allow any of the current squad to move on, although that could change if the right offer came in for players he doesn’t see as integral to his plans going forward.

Meanwhile, Town were amongst a long list of clubs represented at Bournemouth’s Dean Court on Saturday to watch the Cherries defeat fellow League One high flyers Brighton 1-0. Crystal Palace, Watford, Bristol City, QPR, Middlesbrough, Norwich and Cardiff are also reported to have sent scouts, while Scunthorpe have been eyeing Bournemouth players at previous games.

The Lincolnshire club, along with Palace, are said to be chasing defender Jason Pearce, the Cherries skipper, and midfielder Marvin Bartley.

Watford have been linked with keeper Shwan Jalal, while midfielders Marc Pugh, Liam Feeney and Anton Robinson are also understood to be those interesting other clubs.

When he first arrived here I remember a Swansea fan saying "We thought he was lazy at first but after a few months he got into the rhythm and couldn't stop scoring goals". Swansea have been very astute in their signings and need a striker to gun for promotion, that's why they want him. I tend to agree with bluelady, he could turn out to be a match winner for us. Only 18 months ago he was a striker who was scouted by Manchester City/Aston Villa etc after his performances for Swansea. We have been playing strange tactics. With more creative midfielders Scotland could become our clinical finisher......

brogansnose added 09:58 - Jan 27 The bloke needs a supply of quality balls rather than it being lumped in his general direction. Too many people equate good players as being those that run around a lot. If you are a striker you are judged on the amount of times you stick it in the net and he has scored 7 half way through the season. If he gets 14 or 15 then thats acceptable and what our forwards have been achieving even under Jim. ( Apologies if my statistics are out and if anybody has got the stats for goals for the last 4 seasons then i for one would be interested).

clive_baker added 10:09 - Jan 27 A shame in my opinion. Think he's still got goals in him. As correctly suggested he isn't a hold up player where Keane tried to play him (or upfront on his own). His job is to put the ball in the net and can do it with both feet. He isn't past it at 31 he just needs some creativity (Wickham, Priskin, Bullard) around him. That said, i suspect he's on good money so if it's freeing up resources to buy a replacement or give Norris and Macauley what they want then great. Guess we dont know whats going on behind the scenes at the moment!

With his strong physical build he will never look either quick or agile, but give him a sniff of goal and he is likely to bag more goals than any other striker at the club. I'm not a fan of this anti player mentality that is prevalent these days but I would say look at the opportunities that Priskin has failed to convert this year. As a footballer he is much easier on the eye, but as a goalscoring striker Scotland is your man.
