Wigan, Wolves and West Brom Linked With Leadbitter
Wigan, Wolves and West Brom Linked With Leadbitter
Friday, 21st Jan 2011 00:17

Wigan are planning a £2 million bid for Town midfielder Grant Leadbitter, according to a tabloid report. Wolves and West Brom are also said to be interested in the former Sunderland man.

Leadbitter, who is contracted to Town until 2012, moved to Portman Road for £2.6 million in August 2009 and the Blues are unlikely to accept an offer so far below the fee they paid the Black Cats for the one-time England U21 international.

On Thursday afternoon, new Blues boss Paul Jewell said he had no immediate plans to sell any of his current squad.

Leadbitter, 25, is available for Saturday’s home game against Doncaster after serving his three-match ban.

Hoping this is just paper talk. Losing Leadbitter would be a massive step backwards, and doubt there is much truth in this one...

"Unlikely to accept a fee so far below the fee they paid"?

Are you sure, Phil?

Eighteen months ago, Leadbitter was a very promising young premiership player. Hes now a regular performer in a below average championship side, but not a stand out performer.

Dont get me wrong, I think hes our most talented player, but his reputation has to have fallen in the last 18 months. We would do really really well to get close to retaining his value.

Cant lose him! Wheres all the positivity gone? Beat Arsenal, new manager new era and now we have 21 players out of contract, and reported bids for our 2 best midfielders including captain. If we lose any of Norris, Leadbitter and McAuley or god forbid more than one then I really fear for the future of the team. Lets hope its just press.

Jewell needs time to use these players and get them playing I just hope they dont abandon ship too soon

Norris and Leadbitter on their way? No way! At least not both even if PJ has a couple of creative central midfielders lined up to bring in.......... I'd like to know who they could be.......

I'm not fussed if he goes. Most overrated player we have, seemingly undroppable. Was to Keane what Jermaine Wright was to Burley. His corners are awful, in line with most of his set pieces.

Jermaine Right was quality! To be honest £2 million is as near to what we paid for him as we are going to get, and I reckon that would be quite a sweet deal to be honest as he's hardly a playmaker and he just does the same as Norris. If we sold him to get in someone like lalana i wouldnt mind too much.

He has aint really had a good season this year and lets face it my mum can take better corners then him.but I rather he stayed at least till the end of his contract give pj a chance to sort out this mess that rk and sc have got the club into

In all the time he's been here, I've never seen a comment from, or an interview with Leadbitter. Anyone know why? Or did I miss it!

if we loose him, we lose the spine of our team

Leadbitter is an automatic first team choice, but 2 million might prove an enticing offer at this point (alternatively we could wait for him to go on a free at the end of next season). If there are really 3 clubs in for him, then chances are we could get a little more than 2 million (the bidding war begins!). A conundrum for PJ and I could understand if he decides to accept it (solid cash/release of wage and avoids possibility of him just leaving for free next summer anyway).
I would be disappointed if he leaves, he's still young with loads of potential but its looking more and more like automatic first teamers (McCauley, Norris etc) are on their way. Maybe these players have become unsettled by Keane's departure?

Becoming increasingly disillusioned as to the state of our club. Fear the rot lies much deeper than just keane.
what the hell, sell Leadbitter, McCauley and Norris for next to nothing, I am sure lavery, carson etc can come up and cope.
jewells first 'signing' (Lee martin) does not fill me with hope for this football club. hes ok going forward but never tracks back, leaving massive holes for our left back to fill. chimbonda is arrogant and appears so on interview.
losing leadbitter and norris would be like ripping out the interior of the team.

I think calling martin as jewells first signing is a little unfair on pj

Oh dear...
No-one is irreplaceable but we had better get some sort of swap deal or thing might be bleak

Did we really pay £2.6m for him? Clogg should be castrated for such terrible business

BrettenhamBlue added 07:33 - Jan 21
Verxorg,- 2.6 million seems unbelievable doesn't it considering his performances? Think we should cash in now while there is interest and before he has 6 months left on his contract!
2 million right now could give us two or three quality players from League 1.

he's just one player of a very poor bunch who've been responsible for the position we now find ourselves in. he may have been a bit better than some of the others but pleeeease, don't get all watery eyed over the possibility of losing him.
This club needs to clear out the lot of them over the next two seasons and build a team we can all be proud of.
Honestly, the only game they were "up" for in the last few seasons was the other night against the Arse. Disgraceful.
I support a clear out. I support Town!

Personally, i'd sell it at the right price. Ledbitter is a good player, we need an attacking midfeilder, to create chances

Radlett_blue added 07:37 - Jan 21
And he has only 18 months left on his contract, so with Premiership clubs interested, he might decide against signing a new deal so £2m+ could be an offer we couldn't refuse. Over to you, Major.

Get him out asap. Leadbitter has been awful every game I have been 2 this season. He can't cross, can't run with the ball, can't take a freekick and can't take a corner. He walks round the pitch like he owns the place. If Wigan want him, they can have him. We can snap up some young midfielder from the lower leagues for much less money who will do a much better job. 2m???? Great if they can get 2.1. PJ just phone back and say "2.1 and he is yours!"

Good! I hope someone takes him off our hands - the player is a shadow of the one that originally joined us .

Where's the Wickham speculation? Seems to be every player but!
Mcauley!!! Sign your contract offer or Jewell offer him better terms!!! He's the last player i want to leave!

cromwellblue added 08:12 - Jan 21
So you all complained about the manager until you go hm sacked, your gunning for the chief exec and owner and to top it all it's apparently open season on the players.

For god sake grow up!

Give the manger sometime to assess what & who he wants and stop the ridiculous over reaction to every piece of speculation......

howdonblue added 08:43 - Jan 21
he has had the odd good game since he has been here.
but has hardly set the world on fire .
whatever happens we must back our manager.
0

Keaneish added 08:45 - Jan 21
Question is....why wouldn't any of you back our new manager? He hasn't done anything wrong yet!

SouperJim added 08:46 - Jan 21
For £2m, IF we can get Norris to sign, bye bye Grant. You can only have so many battlers in the middle, what we need is creativity *cough* garvan *cough*.
