Norris Could Talk to Other Clubs
Norris Could Talk to Other Clubs
Saturday, 15th Jan 2011 13:20

Skipper David Norris has admitted that he may start talking to other clubs if his Town future isn’t resolved soon. The 29-year-old, who is one of 21 players who are out of contract at the end of the season, has been offered a new two-year contract but negotiations are yet to be concluded.

Norris said: “I could be out of work in five months’ time so I have to look after myself. I can talk to other clubs if I want and that is a situation that I have to look at.

“Nobody is naïve enough to think that other clubs are not aware of a player's situation and my agent has been taking a few enquiries.

“Not only have I got the contract situation, but with a new manager coming in there is a double uncertainty."

The Town captain says that ideally he’d like to stay at Portman Road: “I’m not looking to move on and hopefully I can get something sorted here, but we’ll have to see what develops.”

Bobby_Petta I think you hit the nail on the head. As for all this talk bout him being a good cap don't see it myself never opens his mouth on the pitch not vocal enough for me should try rallying once in a while during the game. If he and gm do not wanna be here then you can both go if you do want to stay sign your contracts. You would think they would let jewell settle in a least a couple of weeks see where the club is going before mouthing off. I don't expect our club captain to come out and say I can talk to other teams bad example to our younger players.

One of the most important players in what is a failed squad. As such easily replaceable. Intact 21 players gives Jewel a real chance of a clear out if he chooses. I for one think something radical is needed.

Yes another clearout could be on the cards but more sensibly than the previous berk!

The more I think about this the more annoyed I get.
Norris' statement demonstrates what is wrong with professional football at the moment. Players are more focused on their own financial position than the collective good of the Football Club and this at a time when many supporters are facing financial difficulties in the current economic climate.

Can't blame the club for making sure we're staying up before offering anyone (prob) better terms than their last contract....

PJ will sort it out! But not all in a week. Patience is required. COYB.

For our club to be in this situation with so many players, at this stage of the season, is frankly ridiculous. Let's hope PJ can bring some much needed common sense to the whole process!

Avg championship midfielder. If we want the Prem, need players that are or could become Prem-quality. Norris is glacially slow, poor aerially, and doesn't score enough for an attacking midfielder. I'd prefer to see us take a chance on a promising 1st div midfielder such as Pilkington at Hudds.

OMG Why has it taken this long to be sorted out?? Clegg really needs to sort his act out otherwise we will be losing a lot of good players this season and in the future.

It would be good if you were to stay, chuck. But if not, we'll replace you. Definatly not a £2M player in my opinion.

Let's push the boat out to secure Macauley but I for one would love to see Norris go. He's slow, can't pass the ball, can't take a free kick or corner and, worst of all, is a cynical player who is filthy in the tackle. And that 'handcuffs' incident sticks in the throat.

The rot set in when Magic signed Norris. Norris was accomodated in the team by Walters being switched to wide left midfield and the latter's form took a dive from then on.
Plymouth played a very shrewd game in extracting £2.2m of Marcus Evans' money for what is a very mediocre Championship player.

theyve both been offered im assuming an improved contract, keep them and play them till the end of the season hopefully staying up then if they dont sign get rid, smith and brown could be the new butcher/osman and norris offers nothing that we dont already have, its a shame if they go on a bosman but life goes on

Smith and Brown/Eastman might be the future of the club but it's too young a central defensive pairing for now. Macauley can help Smith develop, personally they would be my central defenders of choice now.
Norris is a role model for no one, let him go.

He's our Club Captain. Every effort should be made to keep Norris.
Think McAuley and Norris will "slip away" in the transfer window.
Colin Healy will be sort after also after his mesmerising performance against Arsenal. Showed he is a world class player in the making. Made Fabregas look useless.
Should try to sell him in the transfer window for a few million.

Colin Healy is not worth millions of pounds....he's off on a free at the end of the season with 20 other players.
Keanos_Barmy- have to agree strongly. Need to keep McCauley but fear him and Norris are off. McCauley (Rangers or QPR), Norris (Norwich or Leeds Utd). Would be gutted if we lost our capt to Norwich.
Hope PJ can persuade some of the squad to stay or we will have an interesting season next season.

Personally been disappointed with him, initially thought he was a good signing - he has his good games but I don't think he has enough influence in games (looks a bit small too). McAuley would be more of a loss!
