Keane Set for Target Talks
Keane Set for Target Talks
Tuesday, 4th Jan 2011 10:19

Blues boss Roy Keane says he doesn’t yet know whether any players will be moving either in or out of Portman Road before this Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea, but is expecting to speak to a manager regarding a target today.

Keane revealed last week that the Blues had received loan interest in a senior player, with Swansea understood to be chasing Tamás Priskin, and he says he has spoken with various bosses recently: “We’ve had a loan offer and we’ve had conversations. I’m not trying to be clever with you. You have loads of conversations with different managers. Some make enquiries, some follow them up, just like we have.

“I’m due to speak to a manager [on Tuesday], he’s going to get back to me regarding a player. I think it changes by the day, I suppose with the transfer window being open it changes hour by hour.”

Speaking after last night’s game, the Blues boss said that losing to Forest didn’t mean he was intensifying his search for new signings: “I’ve been keen to strengthen for the last 16 or 17 months, so the next few days won’t make a difference. I won’t be on the phone tonight. That won’t speed up where we need to go as a football club.

“We’re looking at two players, that’s what we’re trying to bring to the club and trust me, as soon as any deals are done, I’m sure you’ll be the first to know.

“At the moment, there’s no news on any players, whether they’re coming or going. Please God, when I’m due to speak to you on Thursday or Friday, hopefully I’ll have news for you.”

Asked whether Priskin is set to join Swansea, the Town manager said: “Not as of today. Tamás, along with young Rooney [Ronan Murray] and one or two of our other young boys, will be playing for the reserves [in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace] on Tuesday because he hasn’t been involved in the last couple of games. That’s standard.

“Tamás nearly made it for the Forest game but young Rooney’s done well in training, Rory’s been a handful, Connor’s had his first 90 minutes, while Jason has had two games in three days. Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Colin Healy, Luciano Civelli, Reggie Lambe, Conor Hourihane and Jack Ainsley are also in the reserves side facing the Eagles second string.

Keane, who fears that the Blues could lose Jack Colback after his loan spell ends on January 14th, says there have been no further developments regarding the current loan players.

The Blues boss feels that recruiting senior temporary signings is not a simple business with a specific target, perhaps Andy O'Brien who is set to join Leeds, having proved hard to persuade to move to Suffolk: “Attracting loan players is always difficult, particularly experienced players because of our location.

“Don’t be expecting two or three loan players coming in over the next few days. It might have to be one or two young players who are quite happy to move away from their families.

“Hopefully the lads we might be looking at won’t be married or have kids so they can put up with staying in a hotel for a couple of months and are young, hungry and want to do well.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is reported to have denied making Plymouth a bid for on-loan Town striker Rory Fallon.

What happened to the Press Conference?
Oh well, the rot continues.
On Transfer Situation ,- have to agree with Surco72. Need a natural finisher (Charlie Austin or Midson- who Keane adores anyway) and need to start getting some games under the belt for Civelli.
Does anyone know why we still have Hourihane? (thought he had been sent back ages ago!)
Why don't we try to do with Charlton what Bruce is doing to us with Colback? (i.e. buy Colback or he's going somewhere else- buy Martin or he's going somewhere else?)
Do we actually have any long-term planning at our club?

All this rubbish from Keane about players not wanting to come here because of the towns location. What a load of tosh.

Never stopped any other manager we had from getting in the players they wanted.

Nothing this man says, do I take seriously anymore. He's turning this club into the next Sheff Weds or Leeds.

Looking forward to the trips to Dagenham, Rochdale and Exeter next season!

I have just three words for you - creative central midfielder.Or one - playmaker. Then the rest of the team will function.

Like others on here, would like to see Charlie Austin. Much more likely to be Midson though (as voiced by many others). Either would add to our goal threat.
Dos Santos played on loan for us Roy, offer the right situation and the right players will come.

So, we bring in Fulop as a companion Hungarian International to play alongside Priskin and we then consider sending Priskin out on loan in Wales (where they seem to have no problem attracting players)
Seriously, Roy. SERIOUSLY?

Its telling that Midson won't sign for Southend until his agent has spoken to "a Championship Club"
Where are the Chopra rumours?

Was very sceptical about the Midson rumours, but he is a striker in sensational form (9 goals in his last 4 games-league and cup).
Wouldn't mind a punt on him, but as a Loanee to earn his place and make more competition at the front.
Personally, think COLBACK will be a priority and it will be interesting to see if CARROLL joins as a second keeper on a short term loan.
None of our present players have signed their new contracts. Worrying times.

whoever we sign we should get them in quick so we can loan them out as fast as possible especially the ones that are good players and might score the odd goal or 2 .we cant have that this is roy keanes ipswich town here and we will have none of that fancy goalscoring football stuff around here no we need people who can foul the opposition in their half ...."for some reason".....

out of the players mentioned, midson seems odds on favourite to join us. Fallon has shown heart since joining and hopefully he can step up and do the same.
Worries me that we are in battling for signatures of Fallon and Midson and Norwich regularly sign true superstars. Where is our scouting network? Why can't we bring in some new David Ginola or Henri Lansbury to spice up the team?
Man for man i would take Norwich players in nearly every position (McCauley is class, but how long will we have him?)

It almost brings me to tears the state of this once proud club

sadly bobble you speak the truth. Keane will bring them in with a big song and dance, parade them around. They'll play 1 bad game and they'll be off on loan.
O'Connor never even played a bad game! Looked what happened to him!
Can't see how Civelli will be used by Keane if he can't be bothered with Townsend. The guy likes tacklers. If he could sign Vinnie Jones and call us Wimbledon he would.

There is a rumour circulating, seemingly originated from the Ipswich Evening Star offices, that ME & RK are in the process of thrashing out a compensation deal and an announcement is expected in the next 24 - 48 hours. The Evening Star editor hinted at this himself last night and it has been repeated on Radio Suffolk this morning. Only a rumour however at this stage and we all know how reliable they can sometimes be.
