Keane: Two Points Dropped
Keane: Two Points Dropped
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 18:38

Town boss Roy Keane was disappointed that his side didn’t turn their one-man advantage into a victory as they left Coventry City after a 1-1 draw. The Blues manager also says that Town might have to sign Jack Colback from Sunderland permanently in order to keep him at Portman Road and refused to comment on Swansea’s interest in Tamás Priskin.

Keane said: “We played some good stuff, particularly in the first half. We had good possession, good movement and I definitely feel it’s two points dropped.

“We could have been cleverer when we were up against 10 men, I don’t think we moved the ball quickly enough. In the attacking third, we took too many touches, were too predictable, but having said that we had the best chance of the game through Jack Colback.

“We as a team don’t take these chances, so there should be no surprise there. We don’t score enough goals and we haven’t since I’ve been at the club.

“You have to be clever with your play in and around the box. One or two of our players didn’t take responsibility, we were passing sideways and backwards when you’ve got to be braver. I didn’t think we were brave enough today.”

Keane felt that Marlon King deserved to be sent off if he went in with two feet, but believed his side found it harder against 10 men: “If people think that helped us, it certainly didn’t, sometimes it just galvanises the home team and the supporters.

“We would have been happy playing against 11 because we played against 11 in the first half and we were the most dangerous team.”

Keane also revealed that Jack Colback, whose loan spell ends this month, was the player he was talking about on Thursday who has told him he might not fancy another spell out on loan.

The Blues boss says that as yet no new loan deal has been agreed and believes Town might have to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis: “We’ve not had any confirmation yet from Sunderland and a lot can happen in the next couple of weeks.

“Sometimes a player wants something a bit more permanent, what’s the benefit for Jack staying on loan at Ipswich? Some players want a bit of certainty.”

Keane says Colback’s desire for a more secure future could mean he moves elsewhere: “If we can’t agree with Sunderland, we mightn’t have any money to spend on Jack, he might be going to another club permanently.”

Striker Tamás Priskin is understood to be a target of Swansea City but Keane didn’t want to drawn on the Hungarian's future: “I’d rather not have that conversation today. Lots of stuff comes out of football clubs.”

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd had no complaints about Marlon King’s red card and has no plans to appeal: “I think it was a typical striker’s tackle, I think it was over-exuberance.

“It’s nothing malicious, he’s got off his feet to win the ball and when you take two feet off the floor, it’s a sending off, and that’s what he’s done.”

Boothroyd felt referee Russell Booth was right to wave away his side’s penalty appeal late on as the video evidence showed that Gareth McAuley won the ball from Lukas Jutkiewicz, but thought his team were unlucky when James McPake netted with a linesman’s flag having gone up very early for an offside.

The ex-Watford and Colchester manager said: “The goal from the freekick we scored was a goal and it was a mistake, but I’ve got the computer there to have a look at and the referee and linesmen don’t have that.”

Boothroyd felt that in the circumstances, it was a good point: “I think we can look back at the end of the season and say that today is a good result for us because they are a good side.”

Deeply Deeply DEEPLY concerned about key players (MC and DN for example) not resigning yet. Rumours in tabloids about MC (QPR) and Norris (Norwich) both of which will offer better prospects and contracts. I would blame neither for leaving at this point.
We have Youth prospects to replace them, anyway? Or have we exhausted are youth team?

On another note entirely- Charlton fans are well impressed with Lee Martin. They view him in the same way as we view GM (i.e. key player).
Are we going to let this guy go on a free?

We played a 10 man out of form Coventry and we still could not beat them, and they say we played well. God only knows how we will get on against Chelsea and Arsenal. But still we have got Forest first to try and prove ourselves COYB !!!!

We might be lucky against Chelsea Britanniaman. Chances are they won't regard us as a threat and will play their reserve team (which will still humiliate us!!!)

Urban Blue I think you summed up what the large percentage of town fans are feeling, I log on everyday and am amazed that our inept Manager is still in a job.
Slags off the players, slags off the fans, plays worst football seen in years, wastes millions and constantly contradicts himself in every interview.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sack the Muppet NOW!

I promised i will not go to another match until keane is gone BUT it looks like FINALLY fans are starting to realise! and realise what you ask?
to keep it simple we all see that we are unbalanced and lacking in certain departments (20 months of Keane tinkering) and most importantly our football is dire and heading no where but down! at any club the answer would be "bring in some fresh blood" but to what aviel under this moron? if he does not waste what money we have on players we DO NOT NEED! and does sign what we need then how long before he falls out with them when they get dropped for bizarre reasons??
this has got to stop NOW!! i will go to Portman Road Monday and i beg you all to start the chanting and when i do scream "KEANO OUT !" i hope i dont have some carrot crunching idiot to tell me to "shut up" and maybe even join in !! We need to remove this IDIOT before he destroys this Club both footballing and financially!!!

We've got ME, Simon Clegg and Roy Keane who have no experience of running a football club. Their two year plan is likely to succeed in getting us relegated to League 1. What can a fan do when the club is being driven into a car crash with no-one willing to take action. Stay away until we get a football manager. Hopefully we'lll still be in the Championship.

£43 for me and my lad plus a tenner to park. No wonder the place was empty. We played them off the park in the 1st half and should have rapped it up, but as usual, we came out SH*t scared in the 2nd half, and were lucky not to lose. As for the Colback miss.....didn't anyone notice the linesman flagging for offside?!!!!!

The message is out. Sunderland don't want/don't need Colback. Do we want/need him? Yes if the fee is £500K or less. If more look elsewhere. We need to strengthen but not in midfield where on paper we have the best in the division. He's not pulled up any trees this time around so we should not be looking at paying big bucks for him.

Did not go yesterday so cant comment. But what i can say is after watching us play last season and this,i feel its the most boring, lackluster team ive seen in years. And yes it does include the duncan era.Ive been going over 30 years now,and agree fans are fickle, and were to support a team through thick and thin ect. However the whole portman road experiance bores me,atmosphere and quality of football.

What a pity Marcus Evans doesnt read these pages - Perhas then he'd realise what his next move MUST be to save this Club's season and quite possibly the Club as a whole.

"Thank You" Roy, but please just do the decent thing now and "leave by mutial agreement"!

So it looks like another season to avoid the drop once again? The board don't have any balls to sack this muppet. It's us fans who really suffer. It's about time us fans show are opinion in the stands other clubs have'nt why not us? Are some of us to scared to voice are opinion in the stands? I really hate this Marcus Evans era its brought nothing but F'N Sh!te The board and Keane could take this club down if we are not careful. Do not give Keane any more money 10 million spent and we are just above the relegation zone it's not acceptable at all. Keane out.FORK

After a succession of games in which Priskin is our best player he suddenly ceases to exist. And then we can't make a chance or create anything in the box against 10 men. Keep Priskin, get rid of Keane.

Excellent points raised by many of you. Even the one about bringing back John Wark as right back, I know it may be a joke, but that's how desperate we are, you may even be serious. I never get tired of being reminded how good a player he was.

In spite of his many mistakes (did he offload Sito as well as David Wright?, or was that Magic), something I've noticed more and more is Roy Keane's determination, honesty and an increasing frustration (see the bit about Jack Colback) with what he sees as lack of financial backing from the owner. In fact he is so honest he is going to talk himself into more and more open criticism of his bosses. This will continue throughout January because I just don't think they are going to trust him with any more money. They are right. He is looking for them to splash the cash, they want him to tell them a player and a price.

More and more managers are now becoming available as potential new managers for ITFC. The last thing I saw from Simon Clegg was that Roy would get the funds if he identified the players he wanted. That doesn't quite stack up with what the manager is now saying, unless it's a question about who's responsible for doing the hard work of identifying potential recruits. For Roy, it's a 'few phone calls'. That's nowhere near enough.

The only explanation I can see is that those lower league players some of you have identified as potential signings may be below Roy Keane's radar level of what he's prepared to scout. He also may not have any friends who can scout for him. The famous ITFC scouting network is no more because you need friends and good football relationships (eg Charlie Woods retired or 'let go'?, Romeo Zondervan watching players in the Netherlands). Identifying the right players to bring in is absolutely key and vital to our success (remember it took two at the old Nottingham Forest, Peter Taylor rather than Brian Clough). Now that the Irish and ex Man U mates route is drying up, Roy is starting to see how hard it is to attract players and manage below the top division.

Every league match from now on is going to be a fight for points to try to get safe, until Roy Keane is let go in June.

I can see why he wants to save McAuley and Fallon for the Cups, as he is really worried about who is going to be available to be picked, and no one wants us to get humiliated. He is right to do that, I think, although it will not look good saving players for the Cups if we fail to beat Forest tomorrow.

Glancing at the ITV website, it looks as though Chelsea is only on Sunday because nearby Fulham also drawn at home are playing on Saturday, so no proper TV coverage for us, unless you fancy staying up for 30 seconds of Chelsea goals after midnight. But, COYB, and the 3,000 please sing your hearts out.

Don't shoot me down in flames, but what about bringing Jim Magilton back, like John Wark he is ITFC through and through. With QPR Magic was also good till he fell out with someone. According to David Sheepshanks, he 'interviews' well. And his signings weren't as bad as we have seen since Roy Keane's 'few phone calls' method.

How come all you people who couldn't wait to get rid of Magic now suddenly want him back? What did he really achieve after leaving here? Falling out with people and getting sacked (that temper was seen often enough down here) must look good on a CV.

And really, just how good has Burley been since he left here?

Sorry people, I know I am swimming against the tide when I ask everyone to lower their blood pressure and get behind Keano and the players. Truly I believe the man will come good.

The clown in the camp for me is Clegg - I think he is the one who, standing between Evans and Keano, is helping to destroy our club. Get rid of him, replace him with someone like Sheepshanks or perhaps an experienced manager looking for one last payday and things might, just might, start turning around.

Patience people, please! COYB!

Facefacts - great shout..I never wanted Jim to go in the first place..I think he was doing a steady & decent enough job considering he was fresh to management - remember that season 3 years ago when we only lost 1 game at home and dished out a few batterings here and there along with some truly beautiful football at times...

Jim's troubles started when we crazily let Neil Alexander go to Rangers & Marcus Evans came in & started flashing the cash - we needlessly started buying players willy nilly and it disrupted the team.

I'll admit that Jim didn't really help himself in that last season by tinkering with the team every week but if you've bought a bigger squad then it's harder to keep everyone happy and stick to a stable team.

Al I do know is that I relished every single victory under Jim 100% more than I do under Keane..he was one of us..Keane isn't..i'm not at all starstruck by him..why should I be..he's an ex-manchester utd thug..Jim was arguably the best midfielder this club has had since the Sir Bobby days & should have been treated with a hell of a lot more respect than he was in those final months.

I'd have him back tomorrow.

Lighteningboy- you took that comment right from my mouth, word for word. We NEED someone who knows what this club is all about, not someone who has to have it his way and Jo other. The club employs the manager the manager doesn't employ the club. The club should be run on the way that is had been in the past when we've had success- not necessarily constantly flashing the cash, buying buying and buying more until you get it right, in this reign its never been about trying to play better football its about buying new teams with a millionaire's money....is that the sign of a good manager?
