Keane: Loanees Can't Face Chelsea
Keane: Loanees Can't Face Chelsea
Friday, 31st Dec 2010 15:05

Town boss Roy Keane is says he will be unable to field any of the club’s loan players when the Blues travel to Chelsea for the FA Cup third round tie next Sunday. Striker Rory Fallon has already played for Plymouth in the competition and permission hasn’t been granted by Jack Colback, Darren O’Dea and Jake Livermore’s parent clubs.

Keane said: “None of them are available to play in the cup next week. On top of that we’ve lost Shane and Murph to injury and Gianni’s gone back to West Brom.

“Do we take a risk on Gareth McAuley in the cup match and miss him for a league match? David Norris last year came back from an injury and we threw him back in after being out for four months, but to be fair, he didn’t have four or five months left on his contract then.

“Do we ask Gareth McAuley to take a chance, a player whose contract’s up in a few months?

"Will players whose contracts are up want to take that risk when they’ll have something lined up, which I’m pretty sure they will in January if their agents are any good. David Norris and Gareth are important leaders for us, they are issues which have to be dealt with.”

The Blues boss has used his youngsters when short of more senior players throughout the season, but says even some of them are on the way back from injuries at the present time: “We could go down the road of playing all the young players at Chelsea with some of them, like Connor Wickham and Luke Hyam, just off the treatment table.”

In addition to Gianni Zuiverloon’s return to West Brom, Keane says Sunderland are considering whether to recall Jack Colback: “I had a conversation with Steve Bruce [on Thursday] morning and he’s got a decision to make over Jack.

“These loan players mightn’t be with us in two or three weeks and that would be another disaster if any of them went back, but the clubs have the right to do that.

“At least if they are your own players you can dictate what’s going on with them. It’s an important period coming up and on top of that some tough games.”

Keane feels loans have a role to play even if the Blues are currently being hit by recalls and lack of cup availability: “There are lots of pluses with the loan system, we’ve used it very well, it was important to us last season, as are the players we have now. But then it can upset you like Wednesday when a player gets called back.

“The clubs have the right to do that, but that’s the downside of having loan players and we have decisions to be made over the next few weeks. We certainly need our own players, that’s the problem we have.”

Keane says he has spoken to one player who feels he doesn’t want another loan move at this point in his career, something which the Town boss says he can understand: “As much as I appreciate it’s good for a player to go out on loan, sometimes a player wants to draw a line under that as well.

“I spoke to a player the other day and he was saying ‘I’ve got loan offers, it’s not a loan offer I’m after, I want to go somewhere where I can settle for a year or two and become a footballer’. So don’t think loan deals appeal to all players, and I understand that.

“A player said to me this morning, not in so many words, ‘You either put up or shut up, I want something a bit more permanent or I’m going back because I know there’s someone else who will take me permanently’.”

Oh dear, just get's worse and worse. At this rate we will be playing the U18s against Chelsea!

ME needs to get his cheque book out and sign some midfielders and a right back or we're gonna find ourselves in the bottom three come May

I wonder who that is? Colback?

Does that mean McAuley has rejected a contract and has another club lined up so he dont want to get injuried, or what is the hell Keane talking about?

Sounds like the kind of thing Livermore would say.

Of course we should not risk McAuley in the Cups if he is not ready! We need him back and fit for the league games to help get us away from the relegation zone.

Reliance on loan players is coming back to haunt us. We should have signed more affordable permanent signings, or not released some of our senior pros in the summer.

So our out of contract players are likely to have moves lined up? Will we have any players left?!

Please Evans and Clegg, sort this club out! This is sounding more and more like a joke, and we could get relegated if we are not careful.

How can O'Dea not be given permission? Not like hes going to be cup-tied considering he plays in Scotland?

To be fair Lee Martin has been the only really bad signing Keane has made, his main problem has been targetting the wrong players (ie ones that won't sign for us)

Sounds like McAuley is off and I would guess O'Dea is the one saying put up or shut up. Wouldn't be Livermore as he's not playing so why would we want to sign him and Colback is probably going back so a deal for him is also unlikely and Fallon's fee has been agreed for a perm move so why would he say he wants something more permanent, unless the contract offer was too short.

We need some of our own players, says RK, well who bloody signed all the loans, you idiot, one crisis after another and you look for someone else to blame, it really is time Clegg got off his own backside and found us a manager who knows what he is doing, because this clown just lurches from one bad week to another, just where is this club going with him in charge, what a bloody shambles.

Surely the only loan player that thinks he can go elsewhere on a permanent deal is Fallon? Colback and Livermore would still harbour dreams of making it at their parent clubs.

So if other clubs are recalling their loan payers from us why can'y we recall ours to make the numbers up? I know most of them are sh1te but at east they're ours????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????//

Yea but surely Fallon would be desperate for a contract here so i doubt he'd be mouthing of at Roy.

Yeah it's gotta be Fallon who is saying he can get a permanent deal with Sheffield Wednesday interested. I reckon shut up Roy is the best answer for that one, Let him go but don't let any of our senior players (Priskin) go out on loan.

Leadbitter, Edwards, Healy and Priskin cost £5.8M. What are they worth now?

Why fallon when we supposedly have agreed a fee for a perm deal. Cant see why Wednesday are sniffing if thats the case unless we are really dithering about making it a perm .

Doesn't this just show how bad things have become at ITFC, We are to reliant on loan players, now can''t field a team of our own players to face Chelsea, (I fear we'll get murdered!) Sounds like loan players making demands, cause they know we need them! What a bloody joke.

Having just re-read the statement, There's clearly 2 players who have issues, Keane states: "I spoke to a player the other day...." & "A player said to me this morning..."

Bad times PR.....

Sounds like McCauley and Norris are on their way.
Who can blame them? Why play for such a negative and useless manager when you can play attacking football at a bigger club for more money?????
Anyway, we can replace them with youth players,- just play Josh Carson and Caolan Lavery and play them out of position for a while until they are used to first team football.
Our team is a bloody joke.
SOMEONE PLEASE SACK THE MANAGER!!!!!!!

Sounds like Priskin & Livermore.
Does Keane not realise how bad this sounds? Priskin was shipped out on loan last season after failing to settle early on - fair enough, we can understand that. But he has not only played really well this season, but also worked his socks off for the team in winning possession and holding the ball. Now he's been dropped and is being offered another loan. He must be wondering what is going on and what the future holds, and rightly so.
As for Livermore, let him go. We should have kept Townsends and let him go before Christmas.
The whims of our manager are not only in danger of confusing/frustrating the players; they could also relegate us. He doesn't know what he is doing and it's becoming a more & more difficult job should we get a new manager in.
